Ok, my cobra Rs that i got off of Ebay just came in today. They are 17x8s. I am suspecting that they will not fit without spacers on the mav so i will have to buy those to put them on. So i have a few questions. 1) How big of a spacer would be safe? 2) Would the silver rims even look good on a red and black car? 3) I was also considering getting these powdercoated black. I think that would be very cool, but i dont know if i have the money for that now. Does anyone know of a good powdercoating place in KY? How much ballpark would it be to powdercoat the rims? Thanks for the help.
For years I used wheel spacers on my Mav when I had the Cragars and real wide tires, I think they were only 1/8" spacers. Depending on the tire you use, you might not need spacers? In my opinion a red black car needs bright and shiny wheels, but I am reading of a trend of Nascar type apperance cars. Mostly done to 60's and early 70's style Nascar cars like a 70 Cyclone Spoiler. As for powdercoating the wheels, probably figure at least $200 and as much as $400. Dan
Mustangs and Fords has an article this week on some new spacers from a Mustang vendor that spaces the newer style wheels to work on olders Mustangs, and presumable, Mavs. If you don't have the mag, I could look it up for you.
I forgot we have 1.375" spacers on the front and a 4" wider axle on the rear. The front spacers bolt to the stock hub and have five studs on the spacer for the wheel to bolt to, our wheels are 17" x 9". You my not need spacers this wide to clear the upper control arm, that's where the problem is.
Man, Thom, that is a sweet looking Mav. I agree the silver wheels do look very nice on there! That car is nearly identical to my first and long gone Mav. Dan
GrabberMav71 you might want to post a new topic of John F. I think he has a set of spacers that will work for ya.......His call name is Maverick5946 He had a set of taurus wheels on his 75 with the spacers they might be the ones that you need and I know he is looking to get ride of them.
OK, you can get spacers from: CJ Pony Parts www.cjponyparts.com 1-800-888-6473 and: Performance Wheel Outlet www.performancewheeloutlet.com 909-825-5242
