My car has 1 5/8 Hooker 6901 headers with 3 inch pipes (no H pipe) going into 3 chamber Flowmasters with turn downs.

I know this is more than enough exhaust system for my 9.2 to 1 308 with victor jr.s

But do you guys think I would see any benifit at the track (other than the approx. 50 lb weight los) if I dropped my exhaust system and ran it uncapped?

I also wonder how much it might "lean it out" buy removing the restriction?

OR does this exhaust system not cause enough restriction to matter?

mike, ive got the hooker 6901's on my 308 with dynamax bullit mufflers only behind them. when i take the mufflers off i pick up a little. but what i didn't like is that the torque range shifts. i seem to have to shift a lot quicker. might be okay but i was going through the traps right where i wanted to be with them on, so i keep them on for consistency. i might take them off for the next 1/8th mile race.:)

I think you would pick up some low end.....if you can get it too hook.
When I ran exhaust on mine...my mph did not change near as much as my e.t.
My exhaust hurt me a bunch the first 60 feet.

Imo, your exhaust is big enough that it wont make a huge difference. I agree with Don, if anything you might lose a little bottom end torque.

Bottom end is the one thing this engine doesn`t have much of.

I would like it if my trap RPM moved up some . This engine could use more gear or stall. As it is now it does`nt launch as hard as I think it could, and I go thru the finish line at about 5,400 in the quarter. I`d like to go thru at 6,200 or so.

I know, I know Nitrous would fix it.:yup: Thats what everyone says :)

not having huge torque...may help with tire spin...if you can lauch it harder...i guess the only answer to this is to try it:D see what happens;)

Yes the car doesnt spin the slicks at all. It hooks really well but my best 60ft has been 1.78 on the slicks. I ran a 1.87 on the street tires!

I plan to go back to the track once more before it closes in late November .

I will make a few passes capped up, and then drop the exhaust and make a few more. I`ll post the results on this thread when I do.

I know the only way to find out is take it to the track , but I was curious to see what you all thought too.

Mike, I know I could feel my car laying down at the start...once the RPM's got upstairs, the restriction did not feel as bad.....but it definitely took longer to get out of the basement.
