    Hi all,
As most of you know, I put a 5.0 in my Maverick, and I changed it back to carb, but kept the serpentine belt system. I did some measuring on my Maverick and my dad's 5.0 Mustang, and a clutch fan would be a very close fit to my radiator. Has anyone put one on? What would you all suggest I use? I have a/c, and the engine is a little warmed up(especially compared to the stock 302). I DO NOT want cooling problems. If the clutch fan won't work, should I go to electric? Thanks for any info. Happy Easter!

    Try this one...

    Corbin,

How about a Flex-a-Lite 16" or 17" aluminum fan? The part numbers are FLX-1516 and FLX-1517 respectively in Summit. These two are non-clutch and are exclusively for "counter-rotation" water pumps like yours. I have a Flex-a-Lite fan for my 302 and it runs perfectly at right around 200 DegF.

I don't know much about electric ones, but I know RickyRacer has one.

    Good luck,
    Atzy.

Here is info that may be helpful. If your water pump is the 302 style, the clutch assembly and fan from a Bronco II or Ranger will fit the center locating post but the mounting bolt pattern is not the same.
Clamp the clutch mounting onto the water pump indexed to a clear area between the existing holes. Mark, then drill new holes and bolt on. Just like it was made to be there. This is what I run on my FI setup.

My FLex-a-Lite Universal Black Magic fan works great. If you go electric buy this unit. It is pretty expensive but I had a cheap electric crap out on me and it isn't pretty. It flows tons of air, and has a thermostat and fan shroud (that fits the Maverick radiator nicely BTW) built-in.

    Serpentine

I am looking into putting a fan clutch in as well, but I haven't changed anything on my car. how hard is it to swap the belt system to serpentine?

    How about money-wise?

    Thanks,

    Jonathan

To put the clutch fan in with the present belt system, there is no change needed except to drill the new holes in the clutch mount. If going to the serp. belt, the water pump will run the wrong direction and you will need to set up to wide pulleys at all points and also get the alignment needed for a single belt plus the belt tensioner. The water pump can be changed to one with reverse rotation if needed. Better to stay with your present system and add the clutch fan, much cheaper and eaiser.

    Thanks everyone...

Thanks for the info. I haven't decided what to do yet, but all these are in consideration. I will let you all know what I do when I get it. Thanks again.

    I am going for it...

I decided that I want an electric fan, and since I already had my eye on a Flex-A-Lite Black Magic fan, I am going to but one of those sometime soon. Thanks for the input, and I am happy that it fits the Maverick radiator nicely. I will tell you how it works out. Thanks again guys.
