i was wondering what rear end gear ratio should i use with the t-5 5 speed

    i was thinking of a 3.80 or a 4.11 ratio

how would the 4.11 ratio handle on the freeway

I have 3.89's in my Comet and just cruising around first gear is real short, kinda like driving a dump truck. But at the track i need more gear probably a 4.30 because i only go through the end at 4500 rpm.5th gear at 60 mph 1800 rpm.

    does this sound right ???????????????????????

with my 275-50-r17 tires and a 3.25 ratio

and i do shift at 5,000

    and my trans ratio 1-5
    1'st 3.35
    2'nd 1.99
    3'rd 1.33
    4'th 1.00
    5'th 0.675

mph speed by what they tell me with the (3.25) ratio at 5,000 RPM
    1'st 38mph on gauge 30
    2'nd 64mph on gauge 50
    3'rd 95mph na
    4'th 127mph na
    5'th 188mph na

and the (3.80) ratio at 5000 RPM
    1'st 32 mph
    2'nd 54 mph
    3'rd 81 mph
    4'th 108 mph
    5'th 161 mph

now with the (4.11) ratio at 5000 RPM
    1st 30 mph
    2nd 50 mph
    3rd 75 mph
    4th 100 mph
    5th 149 mph

seems correct, but you aren't gonna cruise at 5K, right? Look at the MPH in 5th gear around 2K, that gives you an idea of your cruising MPH. Also, these are purely numerical calculations. If you want 188MPH, you gotta have the ponies to climb to 5K in 5th gear.

5th gear consumes alot of power. for drag racing you should gear the car to be at redline going through the traps in 4th. i tryed gearing for 5th in my fox mustang and it only slowed it down.

so what gear would you get the 380 or 411 or ???

    4.11 ratio in -- 3rd gear ------------- 4th gear ------------ 5th gear----
    -----------(2000rpm -30 )---------(2000rpm -40 ) -------(2000 -59 )
    -----------(3000rpm -45 )---------(3000rpm -60 )-------(3000 -89 )
    -----------(4000rpm -60 )-------- (4000rpm -80 )-------(4000 -119 )
    -----------(5000rpm -75 )-------- (5000rpm -100 ) ------(5000 -149 )

    3.80 gear ratio

    -- 3rd --------- 4th -- -------- 5th
    (2000 -32) -----(2000 -43) -------(2000-64 )
    (3000 -49) -----(3000 -65) -------(3000 -96 )
    (4000 -65) -----(4000 -87) ----- (4000 -129 )
    (5000 -81) ----- (5000 -108) -----(5000 -161)

i am thinking of going with the 411 gears :burnout:

I liked the 3.80. With the 4.11 and 3.35 low gear, you'll find yourself going through first gear FAST especially if the engine falls off at around 5500. I shifted at 7100 and it still blew through first gear WAYY to quickly.

2.95 low will help. Or if you are getting a G-force or Astro transmission you can get a higher low gear ratio which will let you make better use of a lower rear (final) gear ratio, plus it'll make for less RPM drop between shifts (close ratio).

if you driving the street alot and not going to the track all the time then i would put the 3.80s in. if you goto the track all the time then the 4.10s would be good.
