i see cars with them and yet i hear everyone saying dont do it.... why not? i dont put them on...but whats wrong with them.... just asking and curious thanks
You mean, besides the fact that they look ugly? Longer spring shackles can cause the rear of the car to sway more and affect handling. They also put more stress on the rear half of the leaf springs.
They also shift more weight towards the front of an already nose heavy car. Did we mention they look like s...crap?
They put additional stress on the spring eylets, and throw off the proper geometry of a weak spring. They negatively affect the handling of the vehicle. Oh, and they look like dog doo, was that already mentioned?...
I like it when people paint them flourescent colors.... some people have waaaaaaaaay too much time on their hands. Dan
Not only are they UGLY and affect the cars handleing, they make the car look cheap. They aways made me think of a half-a**ed attempt to fix a problem. Oh yeah, they are UGLY!!!
Awright, awright. I have a new pair of stock shackles and I'll put them on my '73 as soon as I can. And, what's wrong with my hat!!!!!!
Good idea Hawko cause the longer ones look like poop!!! Did we tell you that already? By the way, cute hat.....LOL
But, the previous owner put the shackles on the car. I do know better. I was hot rodding in the '70s.
The look that a person wants is totally up to each and every individual. So, if you (or anyone else) is thinking about shackles.....just pay attention to the mechanical flaws that have been mentioned.
shackles Back in the 70s shackles were the "HOTROD Thing" but they do make the car handle poorly, add stress to the springs and look like junk.Don't use them...Jim The more Imports I see the more I love my Maverick
