what is this single wire coming through the firewall

Do you have a picture of the wire?

 

Is your car a V-8 model? I know there was a brown wire connected to the Temp sending unit on mine.

my comet is a 1974 6cylinder 200 auto. I can check in the morning an take a picture for you.

 

Is this brown wwire off the wiring block coming threw the firewall. On the drivers side.

I also have a single brown wire that goes to nothing. I gets hot when the headlight are turned on. I am thinking it would feed the Sport lamp switch on the Grabber models.

 

I am not sure. The one diagram doesn't show it at all. So I am going to take a picture of mine. Follow it to see were it goes.

 

The temp sending unit should be red/white and oil pressure should be white/red... These are std colors for these functions since the 'early '60s, used at least into the '90s...

IF a common engine light is used for both functions, color may be either or some combo of both...

Grabbers have a unique wiring harness and the plug to the sport lamp switch has two wires.

That may be the connection for the floor shift light. It does not dim like the instrument lights.
