We're kinda running out of classic american cars for people to fix up what do you think that people in let's say twenty years will be fixing up? Obviously mustangs and camaros still but I mean like what do you think is the modern day equivalent of the maverick i.e the car that when if first showed up on the scene didn't get a lot of respect but 30 years later is sought after (by some).

    None!

None cause there are no cool cars today!! There are some popular cars but they will never last twenty years with their thin metal.

Well working at a dealership since 1991 I can honestly say that not many of these cars will see 20 years old up here. 30 years would be a real surprise. I would have to say that the days of restoring old autos like ours are limited. I would think the fox body Mustangs and Camaros/Firebirds of the same era are just about the cut off for cars to restore. I think the big downfall of vehicles say around 2000 and up is the electronics. We are seeing all kinds get scrapped up here for electrical failures. They dont rott out like the old cars but they arent able to be fixed for a reasonable price due to electronic failures. The emmisions laws also rule out using them for powertrain swaps. I dont think any current cars will be restored as we now know it. They will have to be stored and saved from new to last the years.

yes very true im 18 and i believe in that friends that i have who have 240sx or new mustangs they talk all the time about just trading them in and getting the next new thing so who knows how long they will even last these new cars
old cars are amazing and thats why we all fix them up and restore them

I could see the 90's vipers being had for cheap
some of the mid 2000 Z06 corvettes were pretty impressive

Camaro, Challenger, Mustang are natural ones. Back in the 60's and guys were restoring Model A and T's, which by the way was about all you would see at a car show in the midwest, they commented as how nothing back then would make it like those old Fords. Metal was too thin and those mustangs were just too cheaply made to last. Personally I would never thought there would ever be a day when Mavericks and Comets would be collectible. Now here we are, internet, car clubs etc. It will all keep going on guys. Of that I am convinced.

Parts of me hate to go non-American but think along the lines of the earlier Honda Del-Sol, Prelude's; CRX etc. Neat and innovative styling for its time. Reliable---that goes without saying. Nissan and Toyota had some neat stuff and Mazda's RX series was pretty cool.:hide:

in 20 to 30 years there will be a bunch of people in there midlife crisis wanting there first car back of one like. i think of the crazy level of the import trend from the late 90s to the early 2000s will have people recreating there cars from them. it will be like fast and furious retirement home.

    That'll be funny!
But they'll have to find cars to use, since I doubt many of those running the streets now will survive that long, they really beat up and use those cars till there's nothing left of them.

Is it even possible to switch out an old V8 into a new Dodge Charger or the like? With all the electronics required... I like that when I open my Maverick hood there's just an engine with lots of space around it.

i have to agree if the last post ^^^^ i hate opening hoods of newer cars theres not really a beauty to them all the plastic covers and wires and electronics. i open my hood and its just the motor. the plug wires my big air cleaner, and a single wire loom going around the front just simple.
