I normally like to use Quaker State or Castrol GTX. I am due for an oil change and was thinking about going to synthetic and a friend suggested I use Valvoline synthetic. What do you think? What brand of oil do you use? What brand of synthetic do you use?
If you are running flat tappet/mechanical cam shaft best money spent good conventional oil with oil additive different weight for different seasons so many oils so many opinions. Good Luck
I have been using Quaker State for over 30 years. Once in a while , I'll use something else if in a pinch.
There are so many choices it can make your head spin... One of the best off the shelf oils is Mobil 1 0W-40 that has 1100 ppm zinc, which unless you engine has a wild flat tappet cam with extra stiff springs is plenty... I use it in my 520Hp supercharged Marauder(yeah it has roller camS)... In my 66Kmi 302 in the Comet, Quaker State Defy High mileage that has 1200 ppm of zinc, which is plenty for any older street engine... http://www.amosauto.com/Articles/General/News/motorists-goal-to-drive-vehicle-200-000-miles
Castrol Edge full synth in the daily drivers...Gastrol GTX or Quaker state in the old mavs...DDs' are ford products too. I know some mopars and the import GMs' dont like synth oil at all.but its gonna come down to personal preference and typ of use the vehicle sees.If you change your oil every 3 to 5 k...You should do fine regardless of what you use...With the exception of really cheap no name price club oils like Klugmire brand oil or pep boys type re-cycled oils.
Yeah, I definitely expect a lot of different answers. That's cool though because I started the thread not only for suggestions, but also out of curiosity of what everyone else uses.
Daily drivers get Mobil 1 synthetic. The Mav only sees 1,000-2,000 miles per year so it just gets new Pennzoil dino every spring.
