Two 1973 LDO Mavericks (one 4 Drag one 4 driving like Mad on the roads :) ) also have a 75 6cyl Stock! Ok, well sort of Stock :P
ok I neglected my other car for about a year and half now since I been working on the other two cars. well is about that time.

i’m gonna paint this puppy finally. i’ve decided to keep it white but paint it a newer ford white however i’m really torn between the side moldings and vinyl top.

do i keep it or do it take it off?

i would think the most of you would say yank that ugly 70’s crap off! and i’d probably agree with you.

however is that what makes it cool? i mean how many cars do you see with a vinyl top these days? none.. thank god! and we all know that by all means the car may not be timeless however its correct to that time period. just like the ugly green and yellows of that time. sort of why some of you don’t like big 17 or 18 inch wheels and want to keep 15’s on your cars. or keep a car original or stock. i guess what i am tyring to say it make the car unique... i mean mavericks are already unique however there are more and more people fixing them up now... so how do you keep it unique? keep it stock looking? i mean i think more people restomod a car then restore them to orginal i would think.

also some say it looks sleeper with the vinyl… however i think its way to loud not to mention the Mickey Thompson Street ETs and 15x5 skinnys in the front letting everyone know it’s a dead give away. so back to square one.

now if it was my only maverick i’d probably take it off. but that’s not the case and I already pulled off all the side moldings and vinyl off my other car which was an LDO so i kinda already have a car that looks one way. But then again I’m probably not going to paint this car ever again god forbid that it doesn’t need one unexpectedly.

also as long as i have been on these boards i really haven’t seen another LDO like mine… never the less in so cal. i think i have seen like 2 comets and one other maverick within the 19 years that i have had it. anyone know how many of these guy packages they did on mavericks?

i guess i have already made up my mind and i’m sure you all can tell… but i’d just like a few thoughts running thoughts my mind and i’m always like to hear what others like to say.

to do or not to do is the question.

I like the vinyl on that car...it's unique and looks good, I've never really been a fan of vinyl until Mavericks and Comets...they actually look good on our cars...and on that car it looks particularly good for some reason, maybe its the rake, I dunno, maybe its the fact it's white, I dunno...he!! its just does.

    keep the 70's crap!

I always thought your car looked cool because of the trim & top.Everyone seems to want to "clone" a grabber. It's nice to see a regular mav done up right.(y)

We've all heard of Resto-Mod, Modified, Semi-Modified, Retro-Mod, etc. Keep the vinyl top and molding. That is what I call: Tuxedo Muscle

Leave the top alone. Pearl white. 17" front 18" rear Torq Thrusts - hey - it's not my money!!!!! You can probably get half of it funded as graft anyway. :D Speaking of 70's green - what happened to the perfectly detailed NON RUNNING green car? Sorry for asking, I haven't been around for a while.

I think the vinyl gives the car character. I have the only vinyl topped Stallion ever known. Why? cause I love vinyl tops. Keep the side trim also. My 71 is getting a full vinyl top, Why? cuz it is going to look like my old 72 grabber and it had one. Many years ago a guy asked me what kind of wheels would make the most people go ga ga over his car. I told him, I dunno man, I build my car for me only and dont care what anyone else thinks. I still hold that philosophy today.

Im not a big vinyl fan, but since the car is white, why dont you go for a "carbon fiber" material look? I think that would look really cool, especially if you add a CF hood to it.

I've been trying to decide the samething with my 73 Comet. I'm going to get it painted & most everyone tells me to keep the LDO trim & vinyl top (cuz chrome was in, in the 70's). And it gives the car character. So, I guess the trim will stay. I may paint the top black at first, then decide if I should go with the vinyl top later. So, my vote is keep the trim, paint the top & decide later if you want the vinyl top.

    Tops!

I would keep the vinal and the moldings. They were common options at that time period that made the car more expansive than, and more valiable now. If you have the car professionaly appraised, they look at the number of options on the car. I believe that Maverick/Comet values are going up! Also, I don't think there were many loaded Mavericks/Comets built, nor are there many left, espically the early models. We have realitives that had a '71 or '72 Maverick 2door that was harvest gold, with a gold/brown (hounds tooth) vinal top and a tan (plaid) interior. In 1973 It was driven from New York (long Island) to our house in Detroit for a weeks stay. I was 16 then, they let my take that car on a date if I would wash it for them. I liked the car, of course. Derrick-
    That's a tough one.
I really like the way that car looks with the trim or at least something breaking up the line between top and bottom.
I definately think those ugly wheels have to go though.
I'd be happy to dispose of them for you. just say the word and I'll PM you my address.
