I have a '73 comet w/302 and c4 trans. How do I find out what size converter do I have? Thats assuming its all org. the reason i think i need a converter is that the car trys to stall when shifted into gear. can anyone confirm this? any ideas? the car runs fine untill shifted into gear.

Is the idle set too low? Sounds nuts, but it could be. Also, check the vacuum system for an old cracked hose or a leak somewhere.

o yeah, theres a "clunk", when shifted into gear also. sounds like someone hitting the drive shaft with a wrench.

Clunk may be telling you it's time for a new universal joint. I doubt the TC would be the cause of it trying to die. :)
