so im nearing the completion of the rebuild of my 74 and have been thinking about replacing the front window seal but the thing is it has never leaked since i have had the car and im wondering if i should just let it be, need some outside opinions on this one
If its original...Its' 38 yrs old, It will fail. That said, if you like fixing what aint broken... Go for it, just know you will be replacing it eventually. Guess it really depends on where you are in your build or if its a driver right now.
have you been driving the car? as mentioned, it will leak... on another note...the new one will also if the installer doesn't install it correctly... all of my (4) have leaked on their first try...
Just replace it, it's good insurance against leaks with a new gasket and $37.00 spent is not bad...... http://www.carpartswholesale.com/v5...0L/PCNF371323.html/?sc=Product+Listing+Page:2 Don't forget the butyl sealer. 3M™ Auto Bedding and Glazing Compound
Are you needing to replace the headliner? If you do, then the front glass will need to come out. Otherwise, if it doesn't leak, and you see no visible cracks in the corners...I would leave it alone.
i went out and looked at it this morning and saw cracks in it so i'll replace it before it goes back on the road, im replacing the rear gasket too so i might as well do the front along with it. i dont trust the local glass repair place to do a good job so i will attempt it myself with help
The link I posted has both gaskets at a decent price, I have used them twice now and they were great!
the weatherstrip was cracked when i got the car, the is the second time its been gone through, the first time around not everything was replaced, this time im doing everything my self and have been replaceing stuff that should have been replaced the first time around back when my dad helped me get it it was just ment ot be a cheap form of transportation when i was in high school back in 2007, i have almost replaced everything in the car now
