Hello out there. Just bought a 1970 grabber with an inline 250 six. I want to keep it running well (has 70 k miles). Any suggestions as to type of oil (30 w vs multi viscocity) or even synthetic blend?

    Thanks
    John

212,000 miles on my Escort, all synthetic oil, doesn't burn a drop. I swear by it.

    oiling the new toy

Well first thing I'd do, if it was mine, is pull the oilpan and valve covers and see what it looks like in there. The reason, you're talking less then 2500 miles a year on it. That oil did a lot of setting around just getting old in the car. Or did a little old lady drive it to church only on Sunday. Then it never had time to really heat up and sludged it up. Pull the pan and valve covers and find out. You can always paint them while you have them off, make them look like new. Change the fuel filter too,
Also change the trans fluid and filter, including drain the converter. probably the orginal factory stuff. Check at the hoses, and belts. Don't be surprised if the heater goes out the winter. It's old and probably didn't see much use.
Just some of the things when you buy a car like this. My sis had a 78 Firebird, Trans Am that set in the garage for 12 years. in Houston. Should have seen it when she started it and drove it. Everything leaked, brakes, trans, engine, everything.

    yeah

I have always used valvoline syn ... I have over 170k on my truck and it still runs great ... a little more expensive but worth it in my opinion ... Also i change oil filters in-between oil changes so the filter gets changed every 3k and the oil every 6k ...

    Thanks for the information

Thank you all for replying. Looks like syn oil is the way to go and I will take the advice of cleaning the oil pan. Just found out today the title is not clear and have a headache with that. Can you believe the guy who sold it to me lied?

    Thanks again
    John
