I'm reposting this in the general forum, because I shouldn't posted it in the Auction discussion. I'm really looking for fond memories of your first Maverick/Comet, etc....

Well, its almost over, I'm excited and sad at the same time. Excited that hopefully someone will be able to do better with the car then I did, and in the same token Sad to see her go, I'v had this car almost as long as my son.[IMG]
And, I could never imagine giving him up. So, I find it hard to let go of this car, I've had soooo much fun with it since 1997 when I first found it. It's been to Niagara Falls and back! It's been to Maine and back. I've driven it on short trips and long trips, and the car never failed to get me to my destination. I think only once did I run out of gas(When I first got it a full tank read only 1/2 full, so I could ride on "E" for awhile!):drive: In fact, this little car saved my wife a few times when her much newer NEON broke down, she never again criticized my Maverick after that.[IMG]

I'm sure you guys, have had an attachment to your first Maverick or Comet.
Well, this was my first, and hopefully it will not be my last. They are addicting cars that grow on you, the minute you get into one and start it up!(y)
I always loved it when someone would ask me, "what the heck kind of car is that anyway?":slap: And, I loved telling the story of the Maverick in great detail.
Once, its gone. I'll still be around looking for a new Maverick. Hopefully, I find one by summer. I would love to find one in as nice a shape as the Falcon I'm getting.:D

My '73 Comet was my first car, bought it from my older brother when I was 14 for 400 bucks. Restored it through HS, and I will NEVER get rid of this car.

After all, I gotta teach my future sons (and daughters) how to drive stick, just like my dad taught me. :yup:

1974 Maverick Grabber which I bought from terry (hawkco) for $600 a little over a year ago. Then jamie totalled it. Now I have the 72 maverick but it's a rust bucket so hopefully soon I'll get a 73 mav which should have a lot less rust.

It was my daily driver for over 20 years and had a little over 180,000 trouble free miles. Originally a 200 with 3 speed manual, I put a 302 in it and drove it about another 21,000 miles before I finally parked it for almost 9 years. At which time I did a complete restomod to its current glory. Pictures here:

I got mine when I was late 14ish early 15ish. I will be 29 this year:yup: I am the 3rd owner. My car was an ohio car it's whole life until I moved to Kentucky. It was puke green, with a black vinyl top, had the way rad plaid bench seat, 200 strait six. It was in pretty good shape considering it was never garaged by the second owner. I suspect the first owner did but have no proof to validate that claim. I did get the service records and the first owner was an older lady who took really good care of it. The second owner was a college kid, who I came to understand hated the car so much he parked it his sophmore year of college. I paid $500.00 for it back then and have since sunk a fair size bit of change into it the first time I did a semi restoration on it and added a well built 306 and a coan c4 trans and converter. I also added an 8 inch rear end with a 3.40 gear set and a factory ford posi unit. It will be ripped apart again this year after the 2006 Round up for a full restomod restoration.

I always enjoy hearing your story Dennis. Very cool that you still have that car. Great job on the restomod. (y) I would still have my original but I sort of totaled it out.

I got my first Maverick in 1995 when my tired old 68' Mustang was on it's last legs. Almost 300,000 miles on a stock engine will do that to a car.:( The assistant manager were I worked had bought a 77' Maverick from the original owner's 6 months earlier and was hell bent on beating it to death. What he really wanted to buy was a Mustang to restore and play with. An idea was hatched.:hmmm: I offered to trade him my Mustang for his Maverick; just swap keys and pay for the title transfer and tags. That was on a Saturday. By Monday morning his mind was made up. He drove home in my old Mustang and I drove home in my first Maverick. It was the best deal I ever made. A week after he got the Mustang, one of the tierods broke loose and the car nearly killed him. A short time later the tranny jumped out of gear and the Mustang rolled backward down a hill with it's new owner chasing it on foot.:rofl2: He swore the car was trying to kill him. About a year later he ended up getting divorced and he had to sell the Mustang, or more exactly, what was left of the Mustang. I still have the Maverick today.:D

    1st Mav

In 1974 I was a Junior in High School. My Dad & I went to the local Ford place to look for my 1st car. We walked in & there was a 74 Grabber on the showroom floor that looked just like the pic below. It was love at 1st sight. The saleman pulled the car outside so we could go for a test drive. It was 302 with 3 speed Manual in the floor. I drove with the salesman as passenger & my Dad in the back seat. I was driving very slow & careful but when I shifted in to 2nd gear the tires barked. I did not even mean to do that. I was sold at that moment but not my Dad. He thought it was too much power. I talked him in to it though.:)

My first was a really rusty '73 Grabber, yellow over white w/black bucket seat interior.302,auto in floor.Gave $400 for it in '87,eventually swapped in a better(still stock)302,bondo'd up all the rust, swapped on a '71 front bumper, slot mags, yellow traction bars, red oxide primer("thats a pretty fast brick, man!")and a Sony stereo with one of those Sparkamatic 100 watt eq/booster with the little orange lights mounted under the shelf.Pioneer 6x9's out in the deck, anything from tsx20's to old home stereo speakers thrown into the back seat.Still got it(mostly)but it's too rusty for me to fix, just robbing parts to put on the Comet.
