Im in the process of building my 73 mav. I would like to know what others might have done differently while building their rides.

Single biggest thing.....delete the antenna. Somehow we completely forgot and didnt notice till it was painted. That is my only regret.
One thing I would do next time would be to detail the trunk and do it body color. Everything you see in the trunk area. Inside quarters and all. Not a big deal since nobody sees it but it does look nicer.

i would have started with an aftermarket wiring harness instead of cutting, splicing, adding and removing stuff to and from the stock harness.
sense im staring over thats what i will do.

I was going to say the same thing. I have a mess of wires under the dash that I am trying to re-route to make room for the clutch pedal. Everythign worked before I gug into it but now Im not too sure I can get it all back working. I have been wiring and adding things to this car since I was 16 so I'm trying to figure out what the heck I was thinking when I did somethings. I want to strip it all and do a New harness, but that also scares me and I think Id be down for a long time while putting it all togethor. Wish I had done that to begin with.

I should have repainted the car while it was apart. The car had fresh paint on it when i bought it...well sort of.It was painted then put in storage for 10 years then i bought it.I never liked the color from day one but was too excited to get the car together. Now its got to come completely apart to be repainted.

I think most us can say that we are not finished building ours yet.
I've always got something else that i want or need to do to my car.
But if i had to say anything about my build it would be i wish i would have done everything right the first time. Buying the wrong parts or used worn out stuff off of ebay has been costly and time consuming.

I've redone lots of things. I'm OK with some things and some not depending on the reason. Some things I did the cheaper way first in order to control cash flow and get to drive the car sooner. An example is Craigslist 14" tires that were later replaced with 15" BFG TAs and Cragars. Don't regret redoing the tires & wheels. Same story with the rebuilt 5.0 which was resold and replaced with the 347. Had I waited to do those thing right the first time the 2 years it took to get the car on the road would have been 3 or 4. "Project creep" kills a lot of projects when guys burn out or interests change.

Other things like carb and ignition I wish I had gone first class the first time. Might have avoided a lot of frustration.

It would have been smarter to rebuild the steering and suspension before painting the engine compartment. The spring compressor messed up the paint on the top of the shock towers.

Glad I didn't scrimp on body work, paint and interior. Did those things right the first time.
