The company I am buying my carpet from sells two models, 69.5-73, and 74-77. Mine is a 74, but I think that they think that my 74 has catalytic converter humps.

I never had cats on my car, and don't think I have the humps.

Anyone have suggestions...maybe mine is an early 74 pre-cat and later ones had cats?

75 was the first year with the hump.

    I thought it was.

Wonder if I should look for another carpet company that has a different shape starting at 75...

Or just order the earlier carpet.

The samples she sent were nice, and customer service so far has been very good.

    What company is it?
I think we've all come to the conclusion that 69.5 & 70's have the smaller tunnel, then 71-74 are the same, and 75-77 have the hump.
Maybe they don't know? I would think their 73 carpet would fit.

This is correct. I think they are confused, thinking that the '74 models had the catalytic hump also. I have never seen a '74 with a catalytic hump, and my '74 Grabber (built March 6, 1974) does not have the hump either. The front half of the carpet from my '74 Grabber is in my '72 2 door now and fits just like it did in the '74.

Could someone post a pic of a catalytic hump? I have the wide tran tunnel as pictured above...

The passenger side floor has a major extention (of sorts) of the tranny hump that extends across the floor under the front seat. Passenger side only.

This for sure started in 75.
I doubt they were in 74s because cats didn't go in until late 75.
My 75 has the cat hump and was NOT equipped with a cat.
I think it is a May 75 build IIRC.
So the cat hump came before the cat.

I may go with a different carpet provider...I looked at the site again and I will correct myself...they have one carpet that fits ALL YEARS!!!

I wrote back and asked if they knew which year they used as a mold, but have not heard back.

    Furthermore, from their website...
Which sounds to me like if you have an early small tunnel car, you will have a gap in your carpet, or a bulge. Same with non-cat cars.

I thought I was dealing with the same girl Blugene and others used, but apparently I have a different company. I need to search for that recent thread that listed the carpets that DO work.

I don't know who the maker was, but years back I got a carpet set from JC Whitney and it SUCKED BIG BUCKETS!

I knew the name of the maker at one time and would probably remember if I heard it again. They are still in business.
I don't know if it was my cat hump or terrible workmanship, but the carpet didn't fit in some spots and was excessively wide in others.
It was not molded that I could tell either.
It was advertised as molded, but was flat and flimsy when I got it.
    They wouldn't exchange either.
I was foolish enough to cut and install without a test fit.

Here is why they list the years as 69.5-73 and 74-77: The carpet in the early years is loop pile carpet, and the 74-77 is cut loop pile. Now I have two 74 cars. First is my long term project, a US built two door Comet, 250/AT/AC/PS column shift with the medium blue interior, Corinthian Tooled Leather-look vinyl, and bench seats. This car is 3B color coded as light blue. Side note on color, the Comet has the halo roof trim and painted white, no vinyl was ever on it and the Maverick is all blue. The Comet was built in September of 73. The other 74 is my Maverick also a 2 door with same interior, except it is a 302/3speed (factory floor shift), no A/C or PS. The Mav is Canadian built, special ordered on my birthday in September of 73, built in October and delivered in November. That one month must have been all it took to use up what was left of the loop pile (uncut) because the Comet has it and the Maverick doesn't.

As to the cats, I know the Cali cars got duraspark in 74 and I thought they got the cats in 74 as well, I do know that 75 was across the board with duraspark and cats.

Just buy one from ACC and save yourself the trouble. After a few days it layed out fine, I'm more than happy with it.
