I went to a reputable place called John's Mustangs today for a water pump pulley. Mine was stock with FORD stamped into it and this John guy sounds like he wants to buy it from me so he can sell it to a FORD enthusiast who wants ALL FORD parts on his car, and not the aftermarket stuff. So I am telling him I need this pulley, with these dimensions, because I have taken off the A/C and P/S, and I need to run my water pump off my alternator. He asks me what year Mustang I have, and I tell him it is a 74 Maverick, but has the same 302 that the Mustangs have. He immiately changes his tone of voice, and says "I don't know nuthin' about no Maverick." I said "It is the 302 just like the 68 or 70 models, same setup and everything." "I don't know nuthin' 'bout Mavericks." Turns and walks away and lets the guy at the counter work with me. The kid at the counter is very good, pulls three different pulleys down and we find one that looks to be what I need. I asked if John was still interested in the FORD-stamped pulley, and John says "It don't come off no Mustang, I don't want it!" So...next time I call in and need something for my Maverick, 302 w/C4, I need to tell him I am buying the parts for a Mustang...but which year Mustang do I tell him I have?
hmmm ALL Ford as long is its a mustang i would guess 67-70 mustang , not sure though maybe 64-66 just tell him 64-70
These guys have really good parts and supplies. I use them more than I do AutoKrafters, but you really need to know what you need before you go in...he won't help you find a Mustang part that fits the Maverick. I know Fan2488 goes there alot, but he is more knowledgeable about what he needs before he goes in, and he has no problem with buying some parts and getting them home to find that they don't quite fit. He is also pretty good with making it fit if it doesn't want to here is the website with online catalog...I will keep shopping, because they have the parts, But I will tell him I have a mustang from now on for better service. http://johnsmustang.com/ Notice this line near the bottom of the home page... his bold lettering, not mine! Maybe one day, I will meet him at the track with my "67 mustang" and blow the doors off of whatever he is driving...that'll show him
the guy sounds like an idiot... and lazy too! great customer service lol! mustang snobs always say stuff like that! i would have walked out! i found it best just to get something and try it out myself and bring it back if it don't work. go after market if need be
The only problem(s): It is a good hour drive each way to get there, and I don't go that way very often. 2nd: sign above the counter says "5% credit card charge for returns, up 20% restocking fee" So if it don't fit, I drive 2 hours, lose 25% of what I paid, and get to cuss the whole way home.
he does not like you to return things. i heard him get a little po'ed one day at a customer. some of the counter people are pretty helpful though.im not real fond of john.
That is a joke, right? There was no 73.5... Or am I mistaken. I have never been a Mustang fan, or Ford for that matter. Just got into it on accident when this car fell into my hands. Whoa...chill...don't get all excited and huffy...I am a fan now
Exactly... These folks will have to change their attitude in the near future. There are only sooo many Mustangs!
i always tell them i have a '73 . i found out like you that the 'stang parts places don't like Mavericks... frank
Have to agree with Jamie. Gotta be gold plated and given to me before I'll deal with the likes of crappy customer service!
Actually, the customer service was GREAT, as long as I was working with the kids at the front counter. Just don't want to deal with the owner/manager John... Once he went back to hiding in his office, the remainder of my visit was pleasant and productive. I guess, just like any other store or service, you find some guys that know what they are talking about more than others, some you like to work with better than others, here it just so happened that I didn't jive with the owner...
