i have a 1969 302 from a mustang. the motor is missing the distributor. 2 questions, #1 what years distributors will work? #2 can I use a distributor from a newer engine so that i dont have to use points type ignition?
Basically any 302/5.0L will plop right in. But you need the one to match your application. 69-73 will be points 74 is a mixed year, some are solid state(first generation of duraspark) and some are points 75 and up will be durapark starting in 85 some were for roller cams. 86 and up will be TFI which only works with EFI. Best bet is a 75-84 302/5.0L distributor this will be compatible with the flat tapped cam in the 69 block and can be used with a duraspark box or an aftermarket box like MDS/Mallory/etc...
i cant figure out how to change the section from general maverick/comet to Other Automotive Tech & Talk. this is a motor going into a 53 ford customline. let me see if I have the right idea, if i pulled a distributor out of a 69 302 then it would have points, but it wont have the silver ignition box that is bolted to the drivers side inner fender on mo 75 maverick. if i pulled the distributor from a 75 - 89 302 i would also need the silver ignition box. do I have this right?
Do you guys have Kijiji in Manitoba? That would be the cheapest route... Yes, 75 & up is duraspark (silver box)
