what would be a fair price on a nos fender? i dont know what year, just wondering what the adverage going price is so i can make a fair offer, he's asking $225. thanks 4 the help
There is NOS and there is NOS trash. NOS trash is full of dings, dents, rust, etc from sitting around a shop, attic, basement, etc. A true NOS ready to bolt on fender that needs nothing but paint is worth $225 IMHO ... I've seen some NOS sheetmetal for sale that isn't even worth buying since a nice used one would be in better shape or need less work.
ok thats good to know. thanks for the help. the guy contacted me through email so i havent seen it. would it being a small or big bumper fender play much of a role it its value also?
I have seen NOS parts direct from the parts counter with dings in them, after all they are handled by humans. Definitely shouldn't have rust or big dents on it (a few dings are ok with me). If it fits this description, I think it is worth the $225.
For less then $225 bucks, you could probably find a SET of nice used fenders and get the same end result... I can't see paying such an inflated price just because it's never been on a car before. Many parts are worth buying NOS, such as interior parts, but a fender is a fender... especially if the NOS one has dings and stuff just like a used one. I have an NOS drivers side fender. It is rust and dent free, still in the original red primer with a tag on the back from Ford. I listed it twice on ebay, once for $200 Buy It Now, and then for $150. It did NOT sell...
The last set I had sold for $600 that guy turned around and sold them for $800 they were small bumper. I would never pay that. I have nice used ones on all my cars for a quarter of what I got for the NOS. But there is some guys that NOS is all that they will use and they will pay for it.
That was before the one on my Grabber got waded up. I'm keeping it now. If you are a fool enough to pay $450 for one fender because it's been getting tossed around for 30 years instead of being bolted to a car, then go right on ahead. I'll be laughing my ass off as I walk out of the junkyard with two perfectly fine used fenders I gave $35 a piece for, that no one will no the diffrence between on a completed car. Geeze, for $450 maybe I should just start buying up straight, junkyard fenders, sanding them down, primering them red, and selling them as NOS.
Jamie your lucky to be in an area where you can find nice parts. Not everyone is in the same situation.
Up here good fenders are better than gold, I've sold decent fenders that needed work for 180, a good rust free fender will get you 300 easy, I'd buy it for 225 in a second.
Point taken... To me, a rust free fender is not really anything special. I guess it depends on your location.
I bought some in Florida 6 years ago for 25 bucks each, thier like new, I wish I would have bought more.
I don't know what they're worth but I wish I had a pair of them...NOS or used; as long as they're straight
