i have been hearing ones say that there car is faster cause they trap a higher MPH even if they run a slower time for inst one runs 12.00 say at 113 mph and the other is 12.50 at 128 60ft and all is about the same
i would say the 12.00 is quicker but the 128 is faster. depends on what your doing. if your drag racing the 12.00 is faster because the idea is to get to the stripe first.
Just find a long strip, you know, a couple miles long......run em until they both blow up......whoever was in the lead when they blow up was the faster car!!!
Mph shows HP,ET shows how well the car is working, given that they are both similiar weight/engine size. The 12 flat car is working better, therefore it's faster, even if the mph is slower,it got there first.
When I built my Suzuki Samurai with a 408W it had some weird times like that. I was running 9.90's in the quarter mile but my mph was super low 118mph. Sometimes a bad converter causes a low MPH by slipping too much which was probably my case.
neither one is "better". Great ET means that the first 330 feet of the track were scorched and the car was on a roll. It can be hard to make up that ET difference if you're bracket racing. But, a good top end charge can be extremely hard to judge...case in point, my '84 Mustang bracket car. Doesn't run great ET's (9-teens in the 1000') but it does run good MPH for that ET (around 111 mph). Most other cars in this ET range are running 107-109. Even when I have to race against the mustang, it becomes quite hard to beat him if I dont catch him early. Ever been to a 8.90 index race or a 9.90 index race? A lot of the 8.90 guys are running close to, if not spot on the breakout of 8.90. They may only run 8.90, but they're sometimes over 200 mph at the traps. Makes it extremely hard to catch up if you're behind without breaking out. Thats why throttle stops are so common with the index classes. Was out at memphis, saw a guy run 8.909 ET, but at 212 mph at the 1/4 finish line. That was flat haulin! Guy running against him ran 8.88 at 187 mph...broke out trying to catch him. Personally, I like the MPH over the ET. Speaking from experience...when I had to drive my mustang, I had to run a guy that dialed exactly the same as I did. 9.23. We left and he got a pretty good pull on me, but as soon as I got into high gear, he was already looking back and using the brakes...assuming that he had the much better light and may have been breaking out. Guess what...he dumped a little too soon because I drove right on by at 112 mph to his 107...and I took the stripe. Ran 9.24 with a .508 light against his 9.24 and .515 light. I dunno what's the deal with this Mustang...tight converter I guess...but as soon as I get it into high gear (c4) it feels like a turbo..just starts picking up more than you would think that it would. Weird, but hey...it's fooled a lot of people.
Not to steer the thread in another direction but do you have more pictures of that car? That looks killer!!!
Did you mean the Samurai? I have more photos but they are too large to post, and I dont have a way to make them smaller.
look for windows powertoys for xp on the microsoft website. one is called image resizer, free download. i take all my pics at the highest resolution of the camera and just downsize them for posting with that. that way the original on my disc at home i can zoom in on a gnats behind to make sure he wasnt doing somthing bad on my car
Want to go for a ride in my Samurai at the street races? Thank God for inferred camera. This Jeep was out running motorcycles at the Crotch Rocket Street races. Im faster then the bike so the first race you will see his shadow when I slow down to turn around. Then the second race when i slow down he finally has the chance to pass me Keep in mind this is a streetable car, weighing in with driver at 1980 lbs and over 500hp without using any nitrous put me at 10.24 in the quarter. Thats 100% through all exhaust and 93 octane. All work was 100% done myself, all motor, painting, machine work, porting, frame, design, trans. Took me 2 months to custom make those headers 1-3/4" http://video.tinypic.com/player.php?v=mlhuh1 http://video.tinypic.com/player.php?v=mljds1 http://video.tinypic.com/player.php?v=mljjiv http://video.tinypic.com/player.php?v=mljp1k photos here http://i2.tinypic.com/xpn1ue.jpg http://i3.tinypic.com/xpn2g3.jpg http://i1.tinypic.com/xpn3vp.jpg http://i1.tinypic.com/xpn49e.jpg http://i2.tinypic.com/xpn8ux.jpg
