    Hello Everyone,

My Duraspark Ignition module went bad on me. Before I replace it I was wondering what you all thought about the reliability of those boxes. I have read the new made boxes can fail quite frequently and leave you stranded.

Is the MSD 6 set-up a more reliable stand alone ignition system than the Duraspark box. I know it's more money and there are some addtional benefits ar low rpm\idle (which i could use). But before I put out the bucks I was hoping to get a comfort feeling that I can count on it.

Thanks for your opinions....they always help:)

**I have an HO 302 with a high lift cam (don't know the specs), GT40X Aluminum Heads, Edelbrock RPM intake, Holley 600 4 barrel

I've always liked my trusty ol'Duraspark box.Just like anything else,If it's made by man...it will break...(sometime)But to me the duraspark can't be beat. jmo.:)

Its not really a choice of reliability. Both will work fine without problems.

Ive had great luck with both myself.... The duraspark is a bit more cost effective though

:yup: MSD 6AL/Blaster II TFI coil. Has around 65k on it and still works great. It's on a stock 200... seat of the pants power and around town fuel economy increase was noticeable over the Duraspark II. Still running the Duraspark II distributor.

If either goes out you are still stranded either way, duraspark would be easier to find in a small town but if you have time you can send the MSD in for a rebuild for a reasonable price. MSD is a little easier to wire in because you dont need the connectors that you have to have for a duraspark

Duraspark gets it done(make sure all wires, wire plugs, pick-up coil aren't green and nasty) I use a Accel 300+ system that I'm very pleased with. I work on lots of cars with the MSD and Mallory systems and there doesn't seem to be any problems with them. I'd say if you got the money upgrade, if not, the Duraspark is a good system.

I've never had even the slightest problem out of my Mallory Unilite ignition system :) starts like a new car everytime...easiest ignition i've ever wired up too...three wires. no seperate ignition box to deal with..everything is in the distributor. you can buy a mallory coil for it but its expensive...works great with a ford coil.
