Hey everyone, ill make this short and sweet. I'm looking at buying a 70 maverick that has had a 74 comet front end comversion done. the guy selling it is including oem 70 mav front bumper, hood and grill. His pictures arent the best, and I don't know what's underneath the huge park bench comet bumper, if there is a valance panel or not. I guess my question is does anyone have a picture of a 74 big bumper comet without the bumper on it? The car is several hours away and I don't want any surprises. Thanks in advance. No valance on a big bumper car, from the factory. But who knows what's been done, but if they give you all the parts, it's an easy swap.
That's the thing. He said he doesn't have a valance panel. Didn't know if it was possible they put a comet park bench on an existing valanced maverick front end. If that's even possible?_ Edit* thanks 71Gold! Hopefully I can join as an actual mav owner soon!
'Hope the car is in good shape and you get it. I'd definitely convert it back to small bumpers. There are people here who can help you locate the parts and explain how to do the conversion.
Looks decent enough. If you ignore the diving board on the front. I would rather run it bumperless than have that hanging off the front. Someone's gotta have a pic of a mav without a bumper on it?

It appears as tho its been half tucked too, just the pass side. I guess if a valance is all that's stopping a small bumper swap, its not the end of the world. Found one pic, safe to say if I pull the park bench, this is what will be underneath?
I would be real concerned why somebody took a 1970 Ford Maverick and added a 1974 Mercury Comet front end to the car. Plus, that front bumper is really crooked. Just from the pictures, that car has been really jacked with, so make sure you lay eyeballs on it first before you buy it.
I noticed that huge gap on the drivers side then the bumper looks bent or the car is twisted. the reason the car had a bumper or front end swap is in my guess it was wrecked pretty hard and an original replacement wouldnt bolt right on so they threw on a big bumper
That's what I'm leaning towards aswell. I think I can find a better example of a clean mav for about the same price eventually. Gonna let this one go. Thanks everyone for your help, and hope to chat again some day!
So, I can't seem to get this thing out of my mind. He's asking 2000 for it. I figure I could get it for 16-1700. He is including the mav hood, grille, and bumper. So I would need a valance panel. Are those readily available? Is there anything else I would need for the conversion?
I truly believe its been smashed awful hard and I think you should walk no run away as it will be a complete wreck under that bumper I bet. if you look closely at the drivers side theres a major gap of atleast a couple of inches and its tilted up like the whole front end was caved in once upon a time. thats all ok if you dont care about going down the road crooked or having to skid steer the car in the general direction you want it to go. better cars are out there for the same if not less money. if you absolutely must have it take it to a frame shop BEFORE you buy it and have them look it over. maybe its just a bad bumper install good luck with your decision
