I assume that every winter people make plans to do things to their car to help improve performance.....like I do So, my questions is this: Other than your normal engine/tranny freshening-up.... What's your plan for your car this winter and what are you hoping to gain in doing so? Here is mine.....other than getting it rolling again. **I would like to get a set of headers made with 1 3/4 primaries. **Get the proper gear for the 1/4 (but if I get the headers, might not need the gear) **Try to take a few pounds of the car & driver **All this cause I want to run a 9next year:bananaman
1. Remove & have the rear springs dearched. 2. Cut the coils on the front. 3. Paint and replace the rear side panels. 4. Replace the turn signal switch. 5. Install a thermostatic switch on the cooling fan. 6. Install a 1 wire altenator. 7. Install a drive shaft loop. 8. Replace the ignition switch. Funny, except for #8, its the same list I had last winter.
My plans are fairly obtainable. I want to: Put on a great FFW mini-meet for the Ga. and south east Maverick and Comet owners and their families and friends. Detail the engine compartment New Cam New torque converter...if necessary Posi---if finances allow. New carpet inside and in the trunk Not too ambitious. Maybe more, if I have the time and resources.
this is going to be different, but due to rule changes in division 7, nhra summit racing series, i'm going to have to find a way to slow the car down to 13 seconds and still be consistent, or move up a class. also picking up the pieces to do a 6-8 engine swap. looking for a donor car for 5 lug rear and disc brake setup. by the way WHAT WINTER? last race this year is dec 12th, first race next year is jan 16th.
My one and only goal this winter is to get our Stallion painted. It's so close to being done I can just taste it. All the bodywork is finally done and the car is now in primer. All that's left is to put a set of rear shocks on it, get it inspected and then squeeze it in between our other paying jobs and get paint on it.
Swap to disc brakes-I have the parts. Add lights to aftermarket gauges. More detailing of the engine compartment. Add a cd/tuner to the console-hidden.
Cage was going to be number one, but now that Don has enlightened us to the rule change, maybe I'l concentrate my efforts elsewhere.
I'm taking my Maverick to a speed shop to have them get it going by next race season. I'm tired of not having any room to work on it in my garage. Besides, when I get home in the evenings, I am bushed. (poor poor pitiful me )
Hey Don - the 73 is already 5 lug, so you don't need to be worried about a rear end.... As far as my plans for the upcoming many months, I will be working on the 70 Grabber when I have some time and I am actually home. Chop the towers, weld in subframes, swap to 5 lug 4 wheel disc brakes, drop in the 351W and get exhaust done, put in new carpet, clean up the interior, put in bucket seats, switch to floor shift....
My goal is to get the interior done in the orange car. That invloves bolting everything back in sitting in my garage. If I get that done...maybe the motor will get done.
My goal for this winter is to get new rear quarter panels (for the rust repair) and maybe some new custom wheels...
Some pretty ambitious goals and I'm no different. Now that my probs with the drive train have been worked out ( I think)...I'm taking it to the track Sunday night to find out for sure. My to do list, 1. Customize engine bay (move battery, eliminate excess wire, neaten and hide.) 2. Interior; R&R carpet, have seats reupholstered in the original plaid blue and replace package tray, upgrade shifter, install single gauge pods and switch panel. 3. Exterior; front bumper rechromed, new stone gaurd and front valence some minor body work and possibly a paint job. 4. Chassis; clean, detail and paint. 5. A quieter exhaust system maybe, I'm attracting attention from the wrong crowd (cops)around town. Pretty ambitious, might get it done come Roundup time
