Wheel bearing getting loose

    Just wondering if someone could help me the car is 72 maverick 250cid a 4lug. I recently change the spindle,hub and drum. I went for aligment and they told me the wheel bearing was a little lose so he fixed. I drove it about 5 miles and checked it when i got home and it was lose again. any idea whats wrong with it. Thanks

    It is a quick and easy job. Just pop it off and inspect it. Better safe than 3-wheeled...:huh:

    Also, be sure to install it as per Ford specs. It requires torquing it while turning the wheel, then backing off a certain amount. This helps seat the bearing up on the spindle and remove play. Not sure of the torque specs, since I am away from home right now.

    Sorry if I am "talking down" to your skills, I am not sure of your mechanical background.

    Once the cotter pin is in, it'll only go so far.

    Like Dave said. Make sure the cotter pin is in and it shouldn't come loose. You don't want it too tight.:)

    I just did it. They are $10 or less per bearing. Pack bearing with grease. Per Chiltons torque to 25 lbs and back of to 15lbs

    That was my first thought as well. And like they said, be sure to use the little crown looking cap thing that fits over the nut, and a properly sized cotter pin.
