Hey guys, so im lookin to put some new wheels and tires on the comet this summer and have a few questions. First of all I want to run 255s in the rear and 215s or 225s in the front most likely all on 15in wheels. If i am going to run these tires what wheel specs would I need? As in what width wheel, backspacing, offset, etc.

    Thanks!!

I read this but it doesn't tell me how to measure for a rim and tire I haven't bought. if i want to buy a set of tires and wheels how do I measure the car to know what size tire/wheel combo to buy.
I have 275X60 X15s on 15X8 rims, if I measure that I can know that it will fit my car but not necessarily fit yours...

    Cool tool!

I worked for Goodyear way back ... the way cars were built like ours, if you are really pushing the limits and going for a maximum tire stuff, you really want to double check everything on them, because they varied from car to car.

Didn't have robots building them like the modern stuff.

That being said, the link will get you where you need to be, but also go to the tire manufacturers specs on the tire you want. Compare it to the same size from another brand. Actual sizes can vary by an inch depending on design standards for the brand.

If anything, these cars are tight to the leaf springs in the rear, and more backspace centers the tire in the well. I sized mine well enough that everything clears, except, the raised letters are reversed, and they just touch the inside of the rear well next to the back seat if I pull up an inclined driveway. Had to throw in a pair of 1/4 inch spacers. Could have fixed it with a BFH, too.
