Yes, another wheel and tire combo question.

Will a 255/60/15 on a "Painted" Magnum 500 fit on the rear wthout rubbing? I am putting 225/70/14's on the front only because I have a new pair from another car. The wheels for the rear are 15x7. The car is a 73 Comet in case that matters. Wwhat is the backspace on these wheels?

I did a search on this and didn't find anything specefic to this combo.

If those won't fit then I guess I'll go with the 245/60/15 but I really want the wider tire.

By the way, this is going on my latest aquisition, a 73 Comet with 8,169 miles! :dancing: My wifes new Hotrod!

    Thanks!

255s might be close inboard. Different brands of tires run big or small compared to the numeric sizes. These cars vary from side to side too, due to age and weak quality control, so the only real way to know is to physically measure everything.

I am running 265/50/15 Kelly tires that are only 1/4 inch wider than a friends 245/60/15 BFGs. As brands, Kellys run small and BFGs run large. I am using Wheel Vintique 15x8 Magnums that are very close to the factory backspacing on the 15x7s, and also use 1/4 inch spacers between the drums and the wheels. The white letters on the tires are reversed inboard and just the letters will rub the wheel housing on steep driveways.

I have read that about different brands having different measurments. I'm going with TA's. I looked at the BFG website for the measurments and they seem pretty accurate. I measured the 225 and 235's I have and they are very close to what BFG says. I'm still thinking that the 255's will work and if I have to I can get some 1/4 spacers. I do have some 1/8 spacers in my toolbox too.

    Thanks for the info!!!!!!
