I noticed on the street that in 1st gear I can go up to about 3,000rpm and I don't notice much more acceleration or maybe I'm just scared to take it past that because it gets pretty loud. In 2nd gear I can get good power past 3K and same with 3rd and certainy 4th gear. When racing, when should I be shifting, I know people use shift lights, what would I set a shift light at if I had one? :drive:

The mav is gone but i'm still here!
IIRC you got your car dyno tuned once right?

Look at your graph that will tell you when to shift :drive:

man mo. that dyno shows how tired your motor is. its valve springs have to be dead. i would try 3800 rpm. then adjust it from there. did you get the shift light stuff yet?

I never showed you all the dyno stuff did I? I got the MSD rpm switch, waiting for that in the mail. Gotta hold off a bit on the shift light but I'll get that soon.

we can use the window switch as a shift light switch if you want. come by the shop if you have time or we can set something up in the pits on sat.

from the looks of that dyno sheet you should be shifting between 4200 and 4500 rpm. That will put the next gear into the torque curve and not waste much acceleration in the power band.
Take the time to make sure you are getting wide open throttle whenthe pedal is on the floor too.

if the window switch comes in by then I'll bring it to the tracks and i'll bring all my wiring stuff and I have some LED lights laying around.
I am working the rest of the day, I was thinking of leaving early tomorrow morning to go hang out with jeff and then we'll meet you and keith at the track.

so you think it would be worth it to change the springs on this engine just to see what happens?

when i race the mav i shift a 4.500 5.000rpm MAX and i have a 3.00-1 rear gear so my gears are long

shifting at 3.000rpm is like normal driving right

i have 3.25 gears and i'm shifting at 2000-2500 right now on the street normally. it's my first stick though so i'm still learning it.

Wind that baby up to about 5,500 if it will get there then power shift it, you will be putting in the 331 sooner that way :).

When you get the 331 in you are going to have a pleasant surprize, better learn how to shift cause a stroker winds up quick

you are a brave man for swaping the t5 and not having much background with a stick considering the $$ involved // it's faster then before with a auto trans

with my t5 at the track i went 93mph in 3rd gear toped out at the finish line is yours that bad

what gear ratio do you plan on putting in the rear i was thinking 370 to 389 ?? or even 411's if i find a set cheap enough

I was talking to bryant about gears and he mentioned that I should consider higher gears for the track. buy I like having my car as a daily driver. right now I'm very happy at 3.25

do you even use 5th gear

with the gearing i have i will never use 5th and maybe 4th gear sometimes

the way i look at it is maybe if i can get the car in motion easier with 380's i will save gas on the take off and still be cruising doing 80 on the freeways and it will be way faster

in my buddies mustang t5 trans he went from 315's ? to 373's and it was way faster and would do 140-mph
