So I'm approaching the elevens pretty quickly and I'm sure I'll be there as soon as I run slicks and/or nitrous. My question is who's going fast with an 8" rear and how fast are you going? I figure my car probably weighs about 28-2900lbs.
Also has anyone run 28x10.5 slicks on a stock rear yet? I'm a bit worried about fitment.

don't know your engine specs but i'm still useing the 8" with 3.80 gears running E/T street 26x10.5-15...have not been to a track yet to get the tires to hook very well ....but you can get a new bearing support and a Alum center chunk ..that’s stronger then the stock 8 think they say its 45% stronger and about 25lbs lighter

The next time you go to Test & Tune, let me know. If I can beat you thru the 1/4 mile, your car won't break. If you beat me, it will probably blow up....LOL

I ran the stock 8" with 355 mustang II centersection in a 3350lb(w/driver)75 4-door,launched on the bottle & et sreets for over six years. All stock rearend. Finally warped an axle tube.Might could have braced up the housing a little & it would have lived a little longer.Ran 7.80s/12.40s.I seen an 8'' in a 64 falcon with a spool, moser axles,351w.It runs about 6.90 or so and that cars been together for at least 10 years I know.

The 9 is stronger, but remember its about 50lbs? heavier than the 8 and takes more hp to turn.Id run the 8 as long as I could get away with it.(y)

I ran 28x10.5-15's for years behind a mild 302 with the factory 8" and 4.62 gears--with a mini-spool! I think the best it ran was in the 1.47-1.50 range and 7.20's in the 1/8. Of course, the car was stripped to weigh about 2600 lbs and like mentioned, was a MILD 302 with a C4. No nitrous, transbrake, any of that. Upgraded to a 9" just because I could not get a 4.86 gear for the 8", and that's what the car "wanted". Been with a 9" ever since. Also ran the stock 8" 2.79 in the (ex) turbo 302 maverick, with great success and limited traction. Only ran it once on slicks and it went about 50 feet, then the motor fell on it's face due to burned spark plugs and 20+ psi (and utter stupidity to be honest). Still went 1.63, crossed the 1/8 at 9.10 and 38 mph.

Well, now I'm in the 11's.
No stunning 60' time, but apparantly the 8" is holding up pretty well.
I'll try to weigh it before this winter when I plan to add a bit of roll cage wieght.
So far though seems like you can go pretty dang fast on an 8".

Mavman, I would wear a dress to the racetrack for your 60' times.

The car has been parked at my friends house in Renton about 30 minutes from the track since the beginning of June when I drove it down to get together with some of the other area Maverick/Comet folks. I drive it from his house to the track.
I'll be trailering it home at some point fairly soon, maybe after the upcoming September meet. I wouldn't be afraid to drive it back and forth, but It would cost a ridiculous amount of money for fuel at maybe 2-4mpg!

ray, what are you using for fuel. i use vp-110. costs about $5 a gallon. usually fill the 5 gallon cell back up every 3-4 runs. 11-1 compression.:)
