Hi all. I have been wondering where to put the tach I have for quite a while, and was hoping for some suggestions from you. Keep in mind that I want it to be removable with no real damage to the dash, etc. So that rules out cutting a hole for it in this dash. I marked a couple locations on an old pic I have of popular locations to place them. If you choose C, please tell me your suggestion. Thanks!

P.S. It is a Sun Super Tach that my Grandfather had in his Ford in 72.

That is exactly what I want to do in my car. What all did you have to do to put those gauges in there?

I'm the wrong guy to ask. I got this pic off of this message board, but didn't record who it belonged to. I don't trust my memory too far, but I think it may be Charlie Pings car; he's got the website maverickgrabber.com. John B.

If it's a race car, mount it on the dash (or A-pillar) so that it's in your line-of-sight. Otherwise, mount it on the column. Mine is on the column and I like it there. Any lower than that is pointless because you have to take your eyes off the road to see the tach...not good.

Damm I want that steering wheel !

I have the same horn button as shown in the pic by John B...I made mine by taking a Mav door emblem and fitting it into the horn button. I have my Tach mounted on the steering column...mainly because I did not want to ruin my dashpad or if I mounted it lower...it would be to hard to see the R's come up and still keep an eye on the track or road as the case may be. Of course I still need to hide my wires...as you can see

    tach mount

I too have the sun super tach I used to have it mounted on the colum, but had to look into the steering wheel (wich is an aftermarket Grant, little smaller) it was a PITA, so I took the curved colum mounting braket hammered it flat and ran a screw through it, it sits on the dash and is mounted into the A pillar I like it WAY better, eyes barley have to leave the road to see it!

    Console/tray?

Is that the Pinto console that I have seen before?

I suggested that to someone on this board a long
time ago, but I have never seen one installed.

If you put it on the steering column doesn't that interfere with your speedo(vision)?

Good eye Seth....that is indeed a Pinto tray...I have the stock Maverick console (without the clock) also but ran into fitting troubles with my shifter, hence the Pinto tray. It fits perfectly and looks great!

Thanks for the input guys. I am going to put it on the steering column off to the side like Grabber71 so I don't interupt my speedo vision. Does Grant make any steering wheels in about the same size of the stock ones? Thanks.

The Grant #1770 is "about" the same size, nice steering wheel, also mount the tach from the E-Brake bolts.

Question: How practical are the hood mounded tachs? I have never seen one up in person, but I always thought they looked pretty cool.
