    I'm installing a '87 351w....I was wondering which starter & flywheel do I use the I6 cyclinder starter & flywheel or a 351w starter & flywheel?

Im not familiar w/ I6 stuff, but I know you need to use the correct flywheel for the motor and bellhousing.

This goes by weight and teeth for the flywheel.

The I6 flywheel/flexplate might bolt up, but it is the wrong balance.
    So, no... the I6 flywheel/flexplate won't work.

The starter will continue to work fine if that is the bellhousing it came from.
The flywheel/flexplate needs to be a 28 oz flywheel/flexplate with the same tooth count as the I6 one, again assuming you are using the I6 bell.

*Flywheels are used on manual tranny, flexplate on autos.

Now, if you are using a different bell than what was on the I6, then that could change the whole equation.

The 250 and 351 use the same starter. The 200 is a different part number

I thought 87's were 50 oz imbalance? Or is that only on 85 up 302's? :hmmm:

    All 351s were 28 oz.
Only the 302 went 50 oz... believe it was in 82.

Correctamundo................. The actual changeover date though is even a mystery to Ford. It was sometime in the 81 to 82 model years.
