I did this on a 65 Mustang, but the same applies for Maverick/Comet I disassembled a cluster down to the face (including removing the needles from all the gauges - most people are scared to do this part), photocopied the faces, scanned them into my computer, invert the image (black and white to white and black), then print out a copy (or burn a copy to disc for the next step) Take the printout (or disc) to Kinko's and have them transfer the image to contact paper with a white background...cut out/punch out the necessary holes, then peel away the protective backing and CAREFULLY apply to your gauge faces (this is where I usually use a junkyard instrument cluster and safely tuck my originals away...after I've matched/reset the mileage to match the vehicle in question). Reinstall needles, reinstall into instrument panel, and VOILA' - you're done! (I can do this for anyone if they are interested/scared to try...pm me for further details if you are interested)
Check this thread - I used the overlays from the guy on ebay - about $15 invested. Ray also did a great "how to" thread - do a search for it. Here is my thread: http://www.maverick.to/mmb/showthread.php?t=19269&highlight=white+face
I used the ebay ones too. I was thinking that it would be a real challenge to do, but the only issue I ran into was very brittle plastic as I was taking it apart. But then this is an AZ/NV car, so everything in it is dry.
Oh and one other thing...replace all the bulbs while you have it apart. Someone on here I think was selling the brighter ones. It will pay off. After I did both of those things I could actually see the gauges in the dark!
Have had mine done for 2 years now. they look great and every1 asks how I did it. Bought mine from E-bay for $8.95+ shipping. Very easy to do as long as you take your time. I used a very sharp exacto knife and it was easy.TTFN RON
