The product info says you can do it, and I would guess it has to be a better metal protector than primer, so I am thinking of using it as a primer. I would take it to the steel, fill any small dents with Lab Metal (aluminum filler putty) then POR-15 everything, inside and out.

I just wanted some input from anyone who has done it to see how difficult it will be, any hints/suggestions before I get into it.

I would also appreciate PMs if you know someone who has done it who I could e-mail for advice.

I know I sorta hit this on another thread previously, but I never got any first-hand info on how well, or if, it works

I think Por-15 would be way to thick to use as a primer and then paint over it....especially the outside of the car.

Solvent pop?:biglaugh: Never heard that one...Sounds like a good way to describe what I take as fish eye and orange peel?

Way differant! Solvent popping is blistering, bubbles, pip holes or craters as they push through the surface and "pop"

Fish eye is caused by not cleaning the surface with prep sol, the oil from ones finger will cause it.

Orange peel is the paint flashing too soon, wrong mix, temp. etc.

Oh well, I guess I have to do it the old fashioned way.

My problem is that primer will rust through within a couple years, and I won't be ready to paint for a while.

I guess I will be just shooting rattle can over everything until I get ready to paint. I was hoping I could use the POR-15 and let it sit a year or three before I paint.

How difficult is the PPG epoxy primer to use? Can it sit long periods without rusting through?

Epoxy primer is the way to go, I think PPG has DP 40 or 60 (one is black) I've used it many times, easy to spray, works great. Why are you so worried about rust?? aren't you in Texas?

Southeast Texas, about 20 miles from the coast, with primarily hot humid salty air hitting me all year....
