I got my '74 Maverick last February, almost a year ago. nothin' special about it other than it had the deluxe trim/luxury decor, and only 90,xxx miles. since the day I bought I've received compliments on it every single time I drive it. anyways I've done a few things to it, gutted it, converted to a detent floor shifter, Grant steering wheel, dropped the front end, paint, swapped the i6 for a 302 thanks to a man named Julio(also a member, but not sure what his username is), and general maintainence like new floors, seals, seatbelts, etc.

Anyways, I went to Ohio and showed it to my Aunt, because her first car was one of my grandfathers mavericks. she said "oh my lord! who knew a maverick could be cool?!?! I remember in '86 me and a friend drove to the movies wearing ski-masks cause we were so embarrassed to be seen in it!"

any of you guys or gals have some little stories with your maverick or comet?

lol Ive always wanted a maverick even before they were cool.back in highschool everyone wanted the impala or the big muscle cars like chevelles or novas but not me I always wanted a maverick UNTIL THE DAY I SAW MY COMET. as soon as I saw my comet I was in love lol. it has curvy lines like a corvette and tail lights that slightly resemble one from a distance (I know its a ford and Im insulting it by saying it looks like a chevy but I cant help it)
the front end is really what got me. that big curvy hood has style all its own. I think the comet is so much more stylish than the maverick and would only have a maverick for a parts car now lol

right now Im building my comet for street strip but someday I would love to build another just to cruise....... maybe a 6 cylinder car with ac

    crazy request

not long after getting my 72 maverick a couple of years ago I was going down the street , my wife was in the car with me . the next thing I know there was a lady in the next lane waving at us, as if she wanted us to pull over. so I pulled into the next parking lot I could find. she wanted to take a picture of my car because it reminded her of a comet she once had. we talked for a while and she got some pictures. I get similar reactions at car shows I go to, people fondly remembering the maverick or comet they once owned. and appaerently many of them were the same red / orange mine is now painted.

Dad first bought a Maverick in 1976 just a few years before my 16th birthday. It was a 1974 with a 200 six and power steering. A BRIGHT yellow four-door wiith a brown vinyl top, it was starting to get a little ragged by the time I got a chance to drive it.

I was so ashamed of it I'd rather park blocks away from school and walk than park closer.

One day I dropped my sister at school for an after-school activity in the afternoon, and everyone was heckeling me. All of a sudden, this very popular girl I wanted to get a date with opened the door! She asked for a ride home and after my heart stopped pounding I think a "yes" got in there somewhere.

Now, mind you, this car was a piece of crap! It had those dog dish hubcaps (the ones that had the black stripes on them from 1970-74), worn out snow tires on the back, K-40 Citizen's Band antenna (the one with the magnetic base) on the trunk lid, the front seat was ripped, as was the carpet, the floorboard was rusted out, the 200 cid engine missed, my dad drove the car to work and the driver's side was coated with grease, etc.

She lived in an affluent area of town. She got in and I pulled away. Everyone was just AWSTRICKEN!!! And yes, we did go out.

She said, "We'll call your car the Trans-Mav!" Craig.

I wanted a 61-63 falcon with a v8. Searched forever could not find one under 6-8k in good shape (doesn't need a ton of bodywork no rust, etc.)

Behold the ford maverick, It was bright blue and had a 86 v8 in it and c4 trans.

I figured a good foundation for a nice small v8 car.

Everyone has a mustang. So few mavericks!

This pic is from the first time I'd driven my car out on the roads since I had stored it in the 90s. I was a little embarrased driving around all spotted up with spray primer and a different colored hood. I parked at a shopping center to pick up a few things and came out to see about 5-6 people standing around the car taking pictures. :hmmm:

Same thing happened to me when I bought my Maverick. We stopped to get a bite to eat and when we walked out a group of people were waiting for us to talk about the car. My friend was shocked.
I've always liked them. They are COOL little cars.

Ha...Got home from work one morning and a little girl, maybe 10-12 years old, stopped to ask me about my car because her dad has a comet and she liked mine way better. Talked to her a couple minutes before she had to catch the bus for school.

I get stopped almost everywhere I go, people want to compliment it or tell stories about their old maverick they loved.

While it's nice to be noticed.. I'm actually starting to dread all the attention mine's surely going to attract. I like sleeper types that don't attract the wrong kind of attention.

Pretty tough to be incognito with loud mufflers, red racing stripes and a big hood scoop. lol
