WOW! If it had anything to do with a cowl repair/replacement, I suspect HALF of that $6400 was in labour just for the cowl... In all seriousness, I would think a bear could do quite a bit of damage. I would have be interested in seeing the ACTUAL damage, and the ACTUAL car. I'd say the illustrator just scoured the web for "Mavericks" and found Frank's (franktf) car. I'm encouraged at seeing the average value, even for a small-six Grabber. Hagerty is who I plan on using when the time comes.
im not liking the end of the story that is basically laying blame on the owner for choosing to leave his car out instead of finding off site of his house storage. his car was damaged by an act of nature, not neglect on any parties. nature could easily dropped a tree limb through the roof of his garage or the off site storage. a hail storm could have gone through the roof, a fire could happen in the off site storage. i would think the statistics of all of that happening are actually a little higher than a bear running across the front of the car. that level of randomness could just as easily happened at what ever off site location its at. i would be more worried about my car being temporally stored off site than in my drive way. at least the insurance paid out. i know hagerty and grundy are very good about taking care of their clients and do plan on insuring my car with one of them when its finished. i just feel like they are accusing the owner of negligence causing the damage.
Earl bumped a guard rail on the way to my house once. fender nose, hood nose and the bumper needed rechroming...he drove on to my house then 2.5 hours home. Hagerty had the car picked up and brought back to Macon to be repaired by my body shop Guy...$7,300. then later he had a cowl leak and it was determined it was in part from the guard rail thing so $2,100 later it was fixed. that's when I went with Hagerty...
