I have been using Dayco 41 Inch fan belts, code 15410, for the last 18 years on my 1971 comet. It is a v-belt that is solid on the underside that goes into the pulley. Now when I try to order a replacement belt they are all notched on the underside that goes into the pulley. I cannot find an automotive application belt that is not notched. Does anyone know why v-belts for automotive use are all notched now????? I tried to use the notched belt but it just made a high pitch squealing noise, even after I used belt conditioning spray. Thanks!!
new belt with high pitch squeal may be a symptom . Glazed pulleys, misalignment , pulley separating, alt or WP bearing etc . probably with the notch material from @ 10 notched belts, they can make 1 more belt and take some of that one's notches for another ... . . have fun . notched belt slips less on smaller pulley radius
Just for the heck of it, search and saw this......... "According to the U.S. Department of Energy, notched v-belts “run cooler, last longer and have efficiency about 2% higher than standard (smooth) v-belts.” Notched v-belts are optional upgrades to Quality Maintenance and Quality Renovation." David
