The wheel base is longer on a 4 door car so I believe the drive shaft is gonna be longer.

Transmissions are the same just use the original driveshaft for the Grabber.

As long as the engines are the same the transmissions are the same. If you are using a transmission from a V8 it will work on a V8 or six. You can use any transmission that was from a car with a larger engine in a car with the same or a smaller engine but if you try to use a transmission from a 200 six in a car with a V8 you will burn the tranny up. The 250 six transmission will bolt up fine but the tranny has fewer clutches and a V8 will burn it up too.
By rebuilding the transmission and putting the maximum number of clutches in each pack and installing a good shift kit Like the TransGo 40-2 will make any of the C4s work behind a V8.

May not be a lot of cubic inch difference but is a heck of a lot in horse power.

    All is not lost.
The transmission on the 250" six needs a thinner top pressure plate and some .068" clutches from an AOD and it will be a five by five clutch setup!
In the direct pack you use #76304A (F8AZ-7B164-BA) clutches (five of them) and a #26307 (E1AZ-7B066-B) top pressure plate. Replace the direct clutches (waffle clutches) that come in the rebuild kit with these parts and put a TransGo 40-2 kit and a cooler on it and that tranny will hold 300 to 350 hp. (a big cooler!)

If you follow the "How to Hot Rod your C4 Transmission" thread by me, you can make it hold 350 to 400 hp!
Get the Haynes "Ford Automatic Transmissions" book and follow what it says along with my mods - anyone who can rebuild an engine can make the C4 mods.
If you live close enough to travel to Seattle and supply a core I can build you one that will take 400 - 500 HP for $700 (approx)

A Maverick or Comet is a much better place to put money than an old peanut butter jar. You can't show anyone the jar or they will steal it, and you can't sit in it, and just try to take it out on the road... people have no sense of humor about peanut butter jars on the road.
Think of all the fun you will have driving it. Cruisin' for burgers on Friday nights.... getting pulled over for cruisin'.... Paying tickets for racing from stop light to stop light... man this is the best!
