I am looking at getting a toploader bell housing. I read somewhere on the ford muscle forum that the bellhousings on those 2 transmissions were interchangeable (because it's the same case or something...idk). anyway, can I use a toploader bell housing on my 3.03? And it claims to bolt to a 65-67 289/302. Don't all sb v8 from then until now share the late windsor bolt pattern?

    here be that thread: https://www.fordmuscle.com/forums/all-ford-techboard/411067-3spd-4spd-bellhousing.html

Early '65 and older 289s had a 5-bolt bellhousing that won't mate to later 6-bolt blocks. The TopLoader tranny bolt pattern changed about the same time. Your 3.03 will bolt up to a 6-bolt bellhousing.

Thank you! So the 289 and 302 until '67 was a 5 bolt and the sb were 6 bolts after that?

6-bolt bellhousings were born in late 65...63-64 289's were 5 bolt

Thanks, Jeff. Well, I'm gonna go for this aluminum bell for my 3 speed. Let the parts frenzy continue!
