So my great uncle worked for Ford in the 50s-70s and before he retired he bought a Comet 4 dr. Nothing special. He optioned it with a 302, A/C, automatic, bench seat interior and these weird little hinged glass wind wings on the door. They conform to the shape of the window and mount to the window frame.

My great aunt said they were original and he ordered it special like that. I tried for years to buy it from her and she wouldn't let it go. She also said it was fast a Hell and left two tire marks when she stomped it.

Has anyone here ever heard of such a thing? The car looks a lot like my 77 so it was at least a 74 or later. It's teal.

It's a creampuff and is still being driven by her 70 year old daughter as an everyday driver. I would like to locate a set of these window wings if possible.

They are not weird...in fact, I was telling my wife just last night that I wish they still put them on cars.

I had them on my VW bug, and they are GREAT! you flip them open and they force the wind onto your face. You don't even need A/C they work so well, even in hot and humid SE Texas.

At some point, I think they stopped putting them in because they are too easy to bust in and use as a thief's access point in cars...

These mounted to the outside. They weren't built in like in old Mustangs and trucks and whatnot.

Like this except the ones on her Comet were thinner and of course fit the angle of the window.

Was that an option from FoMoCo?
She claimed he ordered them on the car when he placed his order for the car. She said it was because he was an executive and he got perks.

I have a set as well. I have the original ad from the 70's where they were sold through JC Whitney. There are no Ford part numbers on them. I'm sure the dealer installed them. They are not listed in any of the Ford accessory brochures either, so even if they were installed by the dealer, they weren't Ford parts. Still kinda cool though. Different.
