I found someone locally to change out my windshield for $195. He said I would need to get the gasket though. Where would I find one. I searched Autokrafters Maverick catalogue without success. Should I put the windshield in before or after I take it to the body shop to paint? Or does it matter? Ed 924 Mav
The seals are always on E-bay Autokrafters has them they are in the very front part of the cat. You can also shop www.steelerubber.com
$195 for the windshield with labor is not bad IMO. I think the gaskets are $65+/-. Can't remember exactly. Mine was $300 and they supplied a new seal. Seth
$195 sounds a little high to me. I think I paid $50 to have my glass re-installed in my orange car...and I supplied the new seal.
Mine was 195 plus I have to furnish the gasket. Do I really need a new gasket if it is currently not leaking? Ed 924 Mav
Yes, you'll need a new gasket. I doubt they will get the windshield out without destroying the old one.
Even if you were to get it out without destroying the seal, it's going to be hardened. It would take way too much time to try to get it cleaned to reinstall and it would probably never seal back up properly. Believe me, it's not worth the effort. Buy the new rubber...and $195 is not a bad price at all for a new glass installed...especially if they guarantee it not to leak.
Last new windshields I bought, about 2 years ago, were $145 each. At $195, that leaves $50 to reinstall. Sounds like a good deal to me. Try Daniel Carpenter, they are the ones that make it for everyone else. 800-637-8264. Definately paint first.
