I seem to recall someone posting that the aftermarket windshields are thinner than the factory ones, and that is what caused some of the sealing troubles a few people had.
So today while waiting for the glass installer to come put in a good used original windshield I decided to take a micrometer and see what a factory thickness is....0.254 . is what I got.

Does anyone here have an aftermarket windshield (PPG ect.) thats not installed yet that could be measured for comparisons sake?

I don't have an aftermarket one, but I do know that the LDO windshield in my '74 is thicker than the one that was in my stripped-down '75.

I bought a tinted PPG and the AutoKrafters gasket fit on it nice and tight. No problems.

Mike; when I replaced the windshield in my 69.5, I had to use a lot of sealer inside the gasket. I compared the new glass to the old glass, and it was a bit thinner. The folks at the glass company where I got the windshield said I would have problems with this, and they were correct. Took three times power sealing it to finally get it sealed up. Just my $.02.

    hi again

it was me that said that about the windsheilds i use to come in under the name racinglassman64 but i was offline for awhile ive been doing autoglass for 22 years so trust me when itell you their thinner lol only way to have a chance of getting a good seal if youre doing this youreself is to get an after market gasket like autokrafters they make the gasket groove thinner to compensate for the thinner glass we have today.. actually beleive it or not the thinner ones are stronger because of the lamination in the middle is tuffer and thicker therefore they use thinner glass its lighter yet stronger
