Just wondering what kind of tool everyone uses to remove the windshield trim, and if there are any tricks to put it back on,what to look out for etc..
There's just a simple tool you can pretty much get from any auto store that takes it off, but ifyou have skills which I don't have.. I believe yOu can get it off another way
If you're careful and have patience you can remove all the trim with a flat blade screwdriver. The key to doing this is to gently pry on the trim only where the clips are located. Doing this in any other spot will result in damage. It helps if you have a parts car to practice on.
Buy the proper trim tool. It slides under the trim and pull the clips toward the center of the window.
That exact set is available from harbor freight. I just picked it up last night and was well worth the $. I took off one piece of trim with a leatherman and realized I would save time and money if I just got the right tool.
I also got the set at HF for under $3. Works awesome. The black one is great for removing Wipers The third one is the one you need for the windshield clips.
I've had it! I've spent multiple days (a little time each time) trying to figure this out. I've bought the below tools. I've read all the posts here, I've tried to find videos on youtube, but I CAN'T get the trim off of the windshield or back window. I have managed to bend one piece, rip out about 3 clips on the verticle piece on the driver's side windshield, but I have as yet to get one single piece of trim free. Is there a video out there of someone actuall removing trim from a maverick? I'm going to have this all messed up at the rate I'm going. I sure would appreciate any advice.
this is good..I'm going to H F to get that tool set,see if I can avoid testing my patience.I'll probably be in the same boat as 67fstbck Luckily,I have a parts car to do this.I'll start on the dented up side.
did you remove the screws on the windshield trim before you tried to remove the trim... ...sometimes the clips come off with the trim...
I'll look for the screws, assuming they are inside somewhere? I still don't know how to make the clips release so I'm just stewing over it.
You have to get the tool behind the clip and pry the clip gently toward the center of the windshield. I would think there would be a YouTube video of how to do it. If you can't figure it out, take it to a glass place and have them do it. That is what I did 20 years ago. Have done all of my own since.
Thanks Craig, but no motor, no brakes, stripped paint, no interior....so can't take it to the glass place. Another post said their were bolts holding it. I know there are bolts holding a lot of the trim, but when I looked briefly this morning I couldn't see where these would be. As for the youtube video, lots of window trim videos for GM, even a mustang (which I have) but this has be baffled.
