I am at the point of removing the stainless trim from the windshield and back glass on my low mileage '72 Comet parts car. The trim is in excellent condition and the windshield is a tinted Carlite one. So, I don't want to ruin the trim or crack the glass. I understand there is a tool available to aid in the trim removal.

Where do I buy this tool? Any special techniques if I can't find one?

What is a tinted Carlite windshield worth? I am sure the back glass is original, too.

Go to an autobody supply store,, one that sells paint,, best source. Tell them you need a windshield moulding removal tool. Maybe they are not available that easily anymore. I have had mine for years. I dont have an idea of the value of the glass itself, but am sure others will chime in on value.

    Thanks, Dan.

If I can't find one locally, I will probably order one from those folks.

Anybody take out the trim without the aid of this tool?

I have 3-4 sets up in the attic using this tool. Got all I could last time i was at the junk yard.

FYI--If you are going to do a lot, use gloves. I ended up rubbing my knuckles off on those dirty old windshields, but again, that was 5 different cars and several sets of trim.

I see no way you can do it without the tool....and still save the trim.

The idea is to pry on the clips, not the trim.

When I was a kid I had no idea those tools existed. I always used a flat blade screwdriver. It is very hard that way too. duh on me.

I put a new windshield in my car and the trim is a little tricky, but I didnt have a fancy tool.. But I seen the link and will be buying one.. Anyway start on the glass side of the trim and gently slide a felder gauge along the glass under the trim until you hit a clip, then I used my probe with the hook at the end and you pull up and out.. take your time...
After you get the first piece out you will see the other clips and understand the process better..
Keep in mind Ive only done this once:naughty: .. but my trim is perfect and looks fine.. But I will be buying that ool for the future if that tells you anything.. Good luck Steve
