This is on my 04 Dodge Ram 1500. I have factory 4-prong hookup, and swapped in a 6 prong that hooks into the stock 4-prong unit, and has three more wires hanging off.

    White is grounded to chassis.

Black is hooked directly to battery via 30A inline fuse.

Blue is hooked to a white wire with tan stripe that was terminated and taped up into the wires at the rear of the truck. This same wire is the one that comes out of the brake pedal and into the harness for the controller.

When I press on the brake this gets 14v, and when I let off voltage drops to 0.

But when I hook the trailer up, it says NC. Lights work, and I have 12v power to run the trailer jack, but apparently no signal from the brake controller via that white/tan wire.

Any suggestions on where to look next?

The blue wire from the truck should just hook to the brake wire on the trailer, there is no signal wire coming from the trailer. The controller senses the trailer brakes path to ground and resistance. I would investigate the white with tan stripe wires function. I believe if you do a google search on trailer not connected message you will find your answer better explained. I have had this problem and the search helped

Lots of suggestions on the internet, including "push the plug in harder"....

I had it "professionally" wired to the Grand Cherokee when we purchased the trailer, so I think I will test all the terminals and see what each one does at the receptacle, and make sure my truck matches. I might have just swapped a wire because the colors don't match the instructions???

I don't know anything about this controller, but I've never seen white as a ground nor black as a hot...

From the factory 1 white=ground, 2 red=left turn, 3 green=tail lights, 4 black=hot, 5 brown=right turn, 6 blue=trailer brake and if you are running a 7 pin connector the center pin would be an additional ground.

I have wired several trailers and vehicles and this is how they both come from the factory. As far as the controller who knows how it is suppose to be hooked up without diagram
