There is a company by name of EZ Wiring and they sell a 21 fuse kit for under $200 and I have been thinking about rewiring my car down the road. They offer the mini fuse kit as well for $170. What do you guys think about this kit and how hard is it to redo the wiring. Would like to put the fuse box under the hood maybe.
I have seen that company's add in my Rod & Custom mag for some years. I have been considering rewiring also. I believe they also have insturctions for wiring for Ford steering column. I don't know anyone who uses it but I wud not be afraid to try it. If I ordered it and did'nt like it I wud just return it. I know u did a upgrade and tech article on replacing the orig fuse panel not long ago. I followed that thread and thought u guys did a great job on documentation with that and all the rest of the upgrades you've submitted to the forum. For now, I added an aux fuse block that's switched side, from a relay of the battery. I will use that it gives me 12 circuits. I wud check w/ EZ wire and see what recommendations they have for putting it under the hood. I think it's a gud idea, a lot of the newer cars have them there. If they strongly advise agnst under hood mount, I believe Painless has a unit designed for that. If or when I rewire - under-hood will be my 1st. choice also....
I used a ez wire kit in my old thunderbird was a lot nicer then the painless wiring kits. Easy to install
I don't think I would put the fuse box under the hood unless it is designed to be somewhat weather proof. May not make a huge difference since you are in California.
Ron Francis makes a decent harness, also from the streetrod scene. There is also a link on his site to EFI wiring harnesses that are as close to plug and play as you can get. They were a little out of my price range, but if you have a complicated setup or a non-mainstream engine/trans combo, it's something to think about. Can't remember the name at the moment...
RJM? http://rjminjectiontech.com/collections/5-0l-efi-harnesses There is also Kwik Wire, but a harness for under $200 is a pretty good price! http://www.kwikwire.com/products.html
I thought the Jegs 18 fuse was cheap but the one's you guys posted are cheaper! Thanks for the links....... If you want the most bad ass electric system check this out: http://www.carcraft.com/techarticle...r_system_automotive_wiring_systems/index.html
I have seen the Kwikwire setup B4, but did'nt recall them until u mentioned them. They have some nice components. I like the option of the replacement block TR1400 for those not wanting to run wires through the entire car but want the additional circuits along w/ the modern fuses. I can see wiring the entire car if ur gutting it and doing a total restore. For me - that's not the case.
1.) I wud like to see how u did the underhood mount. Cud u post a pix? 2.) Why did u move it to engine bay? If u don't mind me asking. The only thing abt putting it inside out of sight - where wud u put it that's not real inconvient. I know some wud say for the most part, ur not going to have to access it often unless u have an electrical problem - They wud be correct. I just think where the fac unit is - sucks.
I did something similar. I added the fuse box in the engine compartment to carry the additional relays for the fans, EEC, AC, etc and to eliminate the fuse links(magfuses) and a smaller bank of fuses inside that did away with the OEM fusebox, but left most of the Maverick wiring intact for lighting and accessories, column switches, etc.
