Heading to the drag strip tonight with the Mav. Since the last time I was out I've installed my MSD 6AL, new(rebuilt)Ford distributor, and gone to 3.40 gears from 3.0. Still have the peg legger but I'll have to try not to spin the tire too bad. After the big smokey burnout of course. :evilsmile
Sorry I didn't see this post sooner Matt!! I wished you luck beforehand and laughed with you afterward........does this count?? Preston
Um, well, didn't exactly have a successful night. I blew something up on my first run. The car launched awesome and felt great, then BOOM! Fortunately it was the fire extinguisher and not the motor or tranny! It came loose from its home and hit the floor where it raises up in front of the back seat and completely discharged inside the car, with the windows up. I spent probably an hour cleaning up the inside of the car so it would be tolerable on the way home, and by the time I was done the staging lanes were packed, so I said 'screw it' and just watched the racing the rest of the night. Enjoy the video.. Up In Smoke The 'fallout' FYI - if you are using Internet Explorer you will have to save the videos to your hard drive then launch them with Media Player. Firefox does not have a problem with my server. My previous times have not been very good (15.6 best) considering what the new motor should be capable of, and I was hoping to see some improvement with the MSD ignition and the new gears. I've kinda figured out the tranny enough that it should not be slowing me down anymore, it does not (well, has not yet) flare on the shift into third at full throttle at high RPM.
Just saw the post. That really sucks, glad to see you are alright. You will laugh about this one day.
Sorry I meant to add that -- I was laughing about this last night. Once it was over and I knew what happened, I thought it was funny as heck! Honest, you can ask the people I went to the track with. It's just a typical example of the kind of stuff that happens to me. I just wish someone had taken their shop vac to the track so I could have cleaned it up better, instead of having to use wet paper towels, now i've got that residue all over the place, I will be lucky to ever get it all out.
Call a fire restoration company and ask them how they would clean it up. I have a friend that had a garage fire that caused a fire extinguisher to blow up. His wifes car was directly across from the extinguisher with the windows down. The company cleaned up the car and you can't tell it. He wasn't home when they cleaned it up so I can't tell you what they did.
Matt I feel for ya and I'm glad you and the car are okay...but you got to admit that's a hoot.. I can just picture it...I told the wife and kids and they about fell out laughing Your situation with the pegleg is like mine was. The more work I did to to get more power to the rear wheels the more frustrated I'd get because it wouldn't hook-up.
I'm thinking once is enough for me. Maybe we could get some volunteers? Dan we must both be distang cousins of that Murphy fellow. I can't wait to get it back on the track. I just decided to leave well enough alone and not get back out there Wed for something else to happen.
Too funny Matt! 'Glad you can laugh about it. quick one: No matter how long my buddy would hold his foot to the floor, the newly installed tach would only read 3 grand. While switching wires (for the nth time), the instant he touched one wire to the other, we heard a HUGE explosion from the front of the car ... ....the front right tire blew out!
Hey hey, I finally fixed the server so it sets the media type correctly, so now the video links should work for everybody! Ok, I'm excited even if nobody else is. If it still gives you garbage, clear your browser cache, I had to do that before they would work, because the garbage was cached. Got the mess almost cleaned up... may be a while before I find all the hidden stuff. Found some tonight hiding between the upper and lower dash.
