Found this in our local yard ....

1970 Torino GT Convertable .... only 800 made that year. No real rust on this car at all.... absolute shame. Almost totally parted out. By the time I got to it the disc brakes and drivers door were gone .... the car is pretty much picked clean. 2 bbl 351C motor still sitting in it.

This is one of the cars in my "Dream Fleet".... if I ever had too much money and space .... c'mon Lotto ....

This car should have never been scrapped. The best thought that I can have is that it was a part car for another, but still .... there should have been a hardtop donating parts to this one. Somebody didn't know what they had here. I did pull a dash plaque from some 90s cruise night off the dash for my garage.

I did get some parts from a 73 Pinto wagon (rusty car ... it was done) and got a good look at a 1952 Ford or Mercury custom ... louvered hood, 302 swap, and too much rust to save.

That reminds me of one that I had to sell, due to a divorce in 1991. Mine was red with a white top, and interior. It had a/t and a/c from the factory.

    Frank,
They got the top off without hurting the windshield because it was canvas. This was a convertible from the factory. A lot of guys have never seen a 70-71 Torino in convertible trim.

They used the same top mechanism as the LTD convertible so that they didn't have to make one specifically for this model.

    Comet Fever,
Due to FL laws, once a car hits the junkyard it is done. They can't sell it to you whole. (They can cut it in two pieces ... hehe .... but they won't give you the title ... BOGUS!)

This may go beyond FL. I was in a salvage yard a month ago, found a 2000 Mustang GT that left me scratching my head as to why it was there considering it was in excellent condition.

    Blown motor.

I inquired if I could buy it to scavenge for the Maverick and they told me they could not.

Besides, why would they - they make more money parting then whole sale.
