How do I remove the trim w/o damaging it. I watched the Windsheild Tech. Article but they show install not removal.
Its actually held on by clips. You have to pop the clips in order to remove them. Also a special tool is necessary. Do a search and youll find alot of info and pictures. If you cant, ill go out and take a picture of how to do it.
You need a reveal molding tool. Seen different shapes, but most work by sliding between the glass and reveal molding, and rotating the tool and catching the clip to release the molding from the clip. Starting at the end of the molding and gently lifting up with your free hand near the clip your working on releasing may help the process.
You can get the tool at any harbor freight store. It comes in a 3in1 trim kit for around 3 bucks. Heres a pic of the tool and the molding clip: sorry for the quality.
Just for reference....the above picture shows the tool being used on the wrong side of the trim. It should come in from the glass side.
Thanks for the clear up Craig, its been years since i did it. In the top of the glass its set up like that but i couldnt remember what part of the actual clip that you have to pull on.
I have the same problem.. In the lowest corner on the drivers side I can actually see a screw holding the trim on.. I have a good new (used) tinted windshield to replace my cracked one but Im afraid to bend the trim... any thoughts?
Only a screw on the bottom edge as you can see. One per A pillar. The clips need to pulled towards the middle of the window. The tool enters under the trim between the window seal and trim. The tool hooks on to the clip. Pull back towards middle of window and lift trim out of clip. I can be tight depending how much sealer and gunk is on the inside of the trim. Do the bottom trim first then the sides then the top. Thats the best I can do. Someone can correct me if my memory has failed me.
Great!... Thats what I thought, but every post Ive read about this never noted the screws.. I can only see the one on the drivers side and didnt wont to pry on the trim.. I actually already have the tool and gasket, but before i take the window out i wanted to know how in and out... Also, does the new windshield need to be glued in of not?.. Im getting a lot of back and forth feedback... Thanks
