Has anyone ever experienced their crankshaft pulley wobbling? Not like in and out but more like its slightly off center? I've got a 71 Mav with a 302 and factory air. It has a triple groove pulley on the crank. I've swapped out the pulley for another one and that didn't fix it, so I bought a new harmonic balancer and swapped that out. That didn't fix it either. I'ts not a huge wobble but enough for me to be watching it. The people i've talked to said it is not that abnormal for it to wobble a bit and that it probably has been like that since new, but I thought I might trow it out there and here what you guys have to say. Thanks
Just a thought, are you sure it is not an optical illusion, sometimes the wear pattern of the belts in the grooves will give a look of a wobble on the pulley. If you can get hold of a dial indicator, you can take a reading off the outside of the pulley while turning by hand and see if it is off center. Can also use a welding rod or similiar device placed just a little distance from the pulleys edge and rotate engine to see if the pulley hits at anyone spot. The worst thing comes to mind is that the crank snout is bent or just plain off center during mfg or machining(very unlikely). If the belts are not coming off or have excessive movement then it may be nothing to worry about. With a lot of our replacement parts being done in other countries, it is a real gamble to get quality stuff like we used to. In some cases the tolerance can be way off center and still pass their so called quality test.
