Ok I have my 302 installed and she is trying to start but its back firing thru the carb and the headers... It sputters but wont catch... Here's what I've done so far... The dizzy is in the same spot it was when it was in the green grabber, I've double checked the firing order and I think its right... Seams to be getting spark and for sure getting fuel... The firing order I'm using is 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 counter clockwise, with # 1 just to the right of the rear dizzy cap hold down as you are standing in front of the car... Where am I going wrong ? Oh and the header tubes are getting warm so I guess its firing...
Maybe, The 302 ran perfect when I pulled it out of my 74 grabber dizzy was never moved... Is there a way to mess with it without a timing light ? don't have one and never used one either..lol
Cap and roter is good, wires are new and conected well no spark ark anywhere.... Msd is an older 6al that was given to me how do I check that ?
I tripled checked the plug wires, If I have it right on the dizzy its routed to the right plugs... Could I loosen the hold down a little and do small turns on the dizzy and see if it changes ?
It's a duraspark dizzy and a msd box..... And dizzy could have moved just doesn't look like it.... Still tight and I tried to turn it to see if it would move...
yes its the 71 on the trailer, I have all my connections right on the msd and I have 12.4 volts to trigger it... maybe I need to figure out how to wire in an original ignition box in place of the msd... I have a new one in a box...
I never pulled the dizzy out.. I pulled the motor out of my green 74 grabber that was running perfect at the time, I just set the motor and trans down on the floor of the garage and covered it up...
Did you look here: http://www.msdignition.com/forum/index.php? Might be some help, instead of all the guessing?
My gut says the msd box is bad, its very old looking and was given to me... I'm going to post another thread to see if someone has a wiring diagram for a original duraspark ignition box, I have a brand new one sitting on a shelf...
