im getting a cam regrinded and i was wondering if the 303 is too big for a stock 87 302 head w/ stock springs?

cause the guy recommended a 218-224 duration and 516-531 lift for street

i really doubt the valve springs will take that type of lift. the flow of the heads will be too little to take advantage of the cam.

    I have a 87 302 HO ported heads, f4b intake, 650cfm 4 barrel, stock exhaust mani w/ a rebuilt c4 trans, transgo stage 2 kit.

    Im not
Looking to race, just street that would be able to spin and burn out and have a badass staggered idle.

What rear gears? I would concentrate on the exhaust first before worrying about a cam. And the F4B, while period-correct, is not a very good intake.

I agree with Joe Dirt.E303 would be better. If you just want a choppy idle and mediocre power buy the small thumper cam comp makes. You really should use the correct springs and check for valve to piston clearance on any large cam.I would worry about valve to piston clearance a lack of convertor and rear gears and poor flowing intake and exhaust on the X303.You might get the choppy idle but it would turn into a miserable turd to drive.

Why are you having a camshaft reground when new cams are inexpensive?

As others stated, E303 if it is a roller block. Hydraulic lifter engine....use something around .470-.480" lift on the intake; .480-.490" lift on the exhaust; 218 duration @ .050" lift on the intake; 224 duration @ .050" lift on the exhaust; intake centerline around 108 degrees; 110-112 lobe separation angle.
