Well after a tranny rebuild, new valve springs, new edlebrock alum water pump, new valve covers, and air cleaner, I'm back on the road. Best part no more leaks New rear tires going on Friday . I'm going to see if I can get a set of 275/60/15's on there, Might have to go to 255's, we'll see. sorry just had to tell someone. Russ
Todd I was thinking about tieing them to the front of my truck then driving really fast twards the rear quarter of the Mav. then slamming on the brakes. If that doesn't work then I guess I'll have to jack up the car. On a serious note, I said "I'll try" to see if the fit. I got a new set of rear wheels with 4" back spacing, and the owner of the tire shop says he'll mount one and try it on the car, if it doesn't fit we'll try something smaller. That's one of the things I like about small town tire shops. Most "chain" stores won't let you "try" tires to see if they fit. I've bought all of my tires off of this place for the last 15 years and they've always treated me right. One of the best "little things" they do is the clean the "blueing" off of the white letters or white walls if thats what you have. The place is called "Smallwoods Tires" in Rochester PA. for those of you in the area. Smoke 'em if ya got 'em. Russ
I tried 275x60x15s with 15x8 wheels with 4 1/2" backspacing on my Boss 302 & they rubbed on the upper fender lip going over the slightest bumps. It was also lowered 1". Additionally, I tried them on my 70 Torino SCJ with the original 15x7 Magnums & they rubbed while going around corners. It looks like 255s for your Mav to me.
hey russ... you still using those "ansens"? if not i may want to tak them off your hands. lemme know todmeg@aol.com
THEY FIT !!! 275/60/15 !!! They are close but on the drive home NO RUBBING. There's about 3/4" in between the front of the tire and the wheelwell and I can get my hand in between the top of the tire and the fender lip. These are 15X8" wheels with 4" back spacing. Scott I'll trade you my wheels for your 4 door Just Kidding. I'm going to keep them for a set of slicks when the time arrives. Later Russ
The 4" back spacing probably saved you. Is your car lowered or raised at all? Have you tried any hard cornering yet? Or did you tip toe home? LOL
Well... the car is lowered due to wornout leaf springs, but I do have a set of coil"helper" springs on the car, that clamp to the top of the axle for load handling. The coils just barely touch when the car is going down the road. If I hit a bump I can hear the coil springs "ratteling" off of the underside of the car. These will be gone in a couple of months. I either going to have my leafs rearched or just buy a new set. I have to find out which way would be cheeper. I didn't tip toe my way home I just drove it normally(son was with me). I'll go out tonight and "let it have it" just to see what happens. But from What I see right now it doesn't look like there would be any problems. I will take some pictures to show how much room there is. Russ
